| Effective 6 Oct 08, North Texas NEW min Speeds will be 20/5
Found out today working with Fiber Solutions at Verizon that North Texas minimum Internet Speeds will now becom 20/5 effective 6 October 2008.
I asked about a Free upgrade from my present 15/2 and also keep my existing Bundled Service and was told ... YES. But it will not become effective until 6 Oct 08.
Also, for an additional $ 5.00 per month on "Bundled Services" you can opt to get 20/20 speeds.
To get either one of the new services, you will have to commit to another 2 years Term of Service (TOS) agreement at NO additional cost.
This all goes hand-in-hand with the change over on 6 October 2008 for new FIOS TV channel realignments. |

| Verizon is removing the 10/2 tier altogether?...in your area. Will the price be the same as 10/2? |

| reply to airdale123 That's correct! Verizon in North Texas, specifically our area of Keller, Texas (where FIOS TV began) is dropping the 10/2 Tier. The lowest Tier will now become 20/5. There is no upgraded cost as far as I know at this point. I have 15/2 and will be upgraded to the 20/5 next Monday at no cost increase. I have to sign an additional 2 year TOS, however. |

I recommend using the visualware.com one if you want a more accurate test on FiOS. -- He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have. -Socrates |

| reply to airdale123 North Texas customers wanting to upgrade should call Verizon's Billing dept and ask to me upgraded free of charge to the new 20/5 Tier. Billing Dept does know about the Free Upgrades and should not be a problem to uprade. However, please do this prior to 6 October, next Monday. |

I have to sign an additional 2 year TOS, however. Seems like either somebody will have to pay more or others will be having a price drop. If they get rid of a tier where there used to be two, there are two current price-points that people are paying that's being dropped to a single price point. If the upper price point is the new one, I can see grandfathering the lower price point until their commitment runs out, or letting them stay at the 10/2 rate at their lower cost, but I can't understand how they'd be able to upgrade w/o cost longer than a year or two. Else the same 20/5 service would be sold to two groups of people at very different prices. Doesn't seem something likely to be "stable" for more than a contract period.
Boy that was a mouthful. Just another comment that when the 15/2 -> 20/5 (and 5/2 -> 10/2) upgrades came about a couple months ago when they fussed with their tiers nationally, only those paying the current rates got it for free. Others were upgraded to current pricing had they been paying less. Just a thought. |

| reply to airdale123 Oregonian2 and Assault may have valid points. I upgraded my service over 3-months ago on my "Bundled Services" from 5/2 to at that time to the 15/2 service. At that time there was no 10/2 service, just 15/2. I had to pay an additional $ 10.00 per month. Now Verizon tells me going from 15/2 to 20/5 is a free upgrade for me. However, a new Term of Service (TOS) has to be signed. So perhaps customers on the old 5/2 service would have to pay additional to be bumped up to the higher service of 20/5 |

| reply to airdale123 I highly doubt that Verizon is doing away with the 10/2 tier after they just rolled it out back in June along with 20/5, 20/20 and 50/20 nationwide.
I think you might be mixing up the free upgrade from 15/2 to 20/5 if you're paying the current pricing since you just went from 5/2 to 15/2 a few months ago.
Either that or maybe the rep was giving you incorrect information. I still hold my doubts on this one though. |

| reply to airdale123 Just was involved with a new install in Fairfax, VA. Found it strange that the speed was 20/2, although the the work order showed 20/5. Have not had a chance to look into what is happening, however, the customer signed up for some $105 triple play package as I recall?
At the end of the day the customer does not need 20/5, however, I was curious if this was just a fat finger problem on Verizon's end or if something else is going on with the baseline service as the local cable provider has power boost and is starting to roll out DOCSIS 3.0.

| reply to airdale123 My upgrade to 20/5 took place this morning as promised by Verizon. Confirmed with Verizon yesterday, that customers that are on "Bundled Packages" in North Texas that pay $ 109.99 per month will get the free upgrade to 20/5. There is no additional cost because Verizon is in the process of changing the "Tiers" and the new minimum will be the 20/5. |
