| need some info
I been running a dhcp server through the broadband ethernet, my question is this necessary. I dont know if it did anything, but it seems I can host better in games. but I would like to no what it did and im not so sure but I just hosted 28 players in the socom beta, and befor I did this I could only host 13 befor it would crash. 28 in it didnt crash but I had to eat dinner so I shuter down. but like I said it seems what I did helped.
one I first setup up the dhcp through the broadband ethernet it said: running a dhcp server on an eternal device is highly unusual are you sure this is what you want to do? I clicked yes in from what im seeing I can host now so im happy I just dont really quite understand what I did
any help would be greatly appreciated. |

| After you set the DHCP Server on the drop-down in Broadband Ethernet, what address range and netmask did you set? It defaults to 000.000.000.000
More likely, though I can't say for sure, is that some other setting changed your player/crash threshhold.
Something to try, since your setup can test it, how many players can you host if the game host is in the DMZ? |

| reply to dirtwarrior I changed it to the same as network office which is IP address: 192.168.1.2 ending IP address: 192.168.1.254 subnet : 255.255.255.0 default gatway : 192.168.1.1 lease time : 1440
I also have DMZ host enabled in I've had it enabled the first month I got the service. in dmz made no deference at all, it supposedly opens the nat, I know all about DMZ host I still have it on to be safe. one other thing though the ending IP address has to cover the set top boxes range are else you kill on demand.
example: if you put the startup IP as 192.168.1.2 and the ending IP address as 192.168.1.2 as you can see the set top box range is not covered the set top box range is 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.254 I didnt cover it at first in I had no on demand, so be sure to cover its range. |

| Setting up DHCP server on the WAN interface makes no sense to me at all. I feel sure enough in my opinion to say that
a) it either is ignored because the ONT won't pass traffic asking for an address, or the Actiontec has enough error-checking in it to ignore that traffic, or
b) you are mistaken in how you are reporting your configuration.
My suggestion to improve your game hosting experience is to find another router to use as primary. Have the Actiontec WAN port connected to primary's LAN port as is detailed in the FAQ Part 3, and you're more likely to exceed even the paltry 28 players you're getting with your current configuration.
In other words, with a decent router, will you find your 20/20 FiOS connection is the bottleneck? I don't think so.
Your PC hardware will be the bottleneck. Not FiOS. Don't even think of Comcast as game-ready. There's not enough upload, and you'll bog right down at peak hours.
But if it's working for you the way you want it to, don't change a thing. Don't fix it if it ain't broke, I always say. Unless you're like me just wanting to tweak it just right. |

| It made a difference. when I turn, it off, its back to lag strange thing is why.
I dont think its ignored If it was then how come the set top boxes dont work if you dont cover there IP range? |

You need DHCP Server on the LAN for STBs. You said you enabled DHCP on Broadband Ethernet and it made your game player count go up before crashing. |

| Yes and the game never crashed, and Im not changing nothing, I promise. I just hope im not violating any contract rights, I thought, I might be, because it said. Running a dhcp server on an external device is highly unusual. To my ears that sounds illegal, just needed to no if its not. |
