[AB] Slow upload lately....

I am in Calgary. Country hills area. On the 5mb/512kbps package. The download speed is perfect except the upload speed has been horrid the past week and a half.

The upload speed isn't consistent. I can't even upload a file (no not bittorrent) without it:

a) timing out
b) starts out at 70-100kbps then it slows down to dial-up speed or worse (i don't have speedboost)

Troubleshooting I've done:

A) Bypassing my router
B) I've tried other computers. It is the same result on those computers as well. Fast download/horrible upload.

Honestly I wouldn't mind it going 200-230kbps if it was a sustained speed and didn't time out 80% of the time.

It doesn't matter what time of day it is either.

Any advice or ideas?

Thanks for your time.

Re: [AB] Slow upload lately....

Also I forgot to mention that my internet cable modem is one of the old Motorola CyberSURFR Wave modems.

Is it pointless to get one of the newer modems for my internet?

Re: [AB] Slow upload lately....

cableguy84 - Can I just go to a Shaw retail place to exchange it? It's a purchased modem.

Do I have to call them first? Or just when I want to get the modem activated?

I am not 100% sure on that. They should, it would be best to call your local Shaw building

Re: [AB] Slow upload lately....

Thanks for your help. Shaw finally emailed me back and said there is packet loss (not a big surprise to me). So they have scheduled a tech for Thursday to replace my modem and "check some cables".

So I will update this thread after they've been here.

Re: [AB] Slow upload lately....

Received my new modem. Signal quality is now excellent. Speed tests are maxed out. Consistent download and upload speeds as well.

Just wanted to let everyone know.
