| What should I do about cigarette-butt woman?
A couple of weeks ago I was staring at my lawn and noticed an inordinate number of Marlboro Light cigarette butts all over the street and sidewalk in front of my and my neighbor's houses. So many that I collected them all and took a photo. As you can see, there are only two "different" butts. (Can somebody please count them for me?)
Now today while I was walking to the mailbox, I think I saw the culprit, whom I saw once before sitting on the curb late at night. Today she was smoking a cigarette that looks just like the butts I collected, but hey, from a distance of 10 feet I still couldn't make a positive ID. I would have talked to her but she had her phone on her ear.
Should I approach her, butt into her conversation, (punny!) and ask her to clean up after herself? Just hand her the bag of butts with a note? I wish she would do her littering in front of whatever house she is living in. It just seems really un-neighborly to turn our right-of-way into a dump.

I would observe her discreetly, and try to photograph her dropping butts. Then, I would approach her in a polite manner and ask her to kindly not drop her cigarette butts anywhere on the street. If she cops an attitude about it, tell her you are most disappointed with her disrespect of her neighbors and just walk away. I would then immediately ring the local police department and file a formal complaint about her littering, and possibly trespassing (depending on where she is discarding them in relation to your property line). If there's a homeowner assocation, report it to them as well.
Do not retaliate or confront her further...as wrong as she may be, in all likelihood, you will end up as the one in big trouble if you take matters into your own hands.

The white with green letters are Marlboro Menthols
The white with tan letters are Marlboro Lights
I also see Camels, what look to be Winstons, Benson & Hedges and Parliament.
I believe the count is at least 6 different brands

I believe the count is at least 6 different brands Wow, these newfangled digital cameras are amazing. I didn't even think to look that closely, but I too see the Benson & Hedges. So I have to guess that she's not responsible for as many as I thought. Still, there's been a definite upswing in the local butt population.

Well, where I live, I have no doubt they would come over, take a full report and do a stakeout. But I wouldn't call them unless she told me to f*** off or something. |

You call the cops where I live, they WILL follow up. Especially with cigarette butts. Trying to convince him to not call the police regarding littering is pretty irresponsible. Should he just get a bat? Handle it himself? Your post offered no help at all nor did it offer an alternative so nice job troll.

Where I live litter frequently finds it's way into my yard, but since I have to cut the grass and do other yard maintenance, just picking it up and disposing of it is really no big deal.
If I ever saw someone deliberately drop litter into the yard, I would have a "friendly chat" with them about it,...still, the thought of getting law enforcement involved over something so trivial has never occurred to me.
I'd rather they stay focused on more serious matters such as robbery, rape, and murder.
I can handle the small stuff . |

My post got deleted despite how beneficial I think it is to the OP, so I'll try it again.
I really feel this is not an important problem and you should try to find more important priorities in your life. One day, you may regret wasting time on things like this.

IMO: Those cigarettes with filters on them should be outlawed. Any unfilterd cigarette or cigar would be gone in a very short time. Those filters are probobly going to be around for a long time. Even after someone picks them up. |

| It should be obvious to do it when she's on/near his property smoking and littering...not follow her around. Discretion is recommended to avoid a confrontation with her over it, and let her be documented doing it multiple times, not just a single instance.
What is it with having to spell out everything these days? Whatever happened to context clues?
