Random breakup on HD channels

I have IMG 1.6, and an HD STB (QIP7 something, non dvr)..

Twice now over the last couple days I've been watching an HD channel (the one instance was HGTV HD), and I will get this 1 inch or so in size (top to bottom) of signal breakup that runs completely across the screen horizontally through the middle of the picture. It will last for a second or two, then go away.

Is there anything I can check from a menu in my STB to make sure Im getting the correct signal strength etc..??

This is a new install from 9/23.

When this happens, power off the STB and hit the "Ok / Select" button twice.

This will bring up the diagnostics menu.

Choose #4 Inband Status - and it will show you the SNR and any errors that particular station is seeing.

If you're seeing pixellation, you should see some errors show up on the counter. If you don't see any errors, then the issue can (and has happened to me previously) be happening at either the VSO or VHO level.

Sorry..what's VSO and VHO?

Sorry-

VSO is your local Central Office. This building feeds your neighborhood.

VHO is the regional hub - most likely for you in Buffalo.

What I meant to say is if the issue is at either of these places, it would be out of your hands.

Ok, cool.

Thanks for the tip on how to check for errors. I'll definitely use this next time I see the pixelation.

I think this is my problem as well. The "breakup" seems to happen at the same level as a ticker (like the ticker at the bottom of the screen during a baseball game, or the in-game score banner at the top). Almost as if the distortion is following the most "action" on the screen.

But again, it's just this little band that appears for a second all the way across, then goes away ...
