Scavenger Hunt #105---October 1-14, 2008

Scavenger Hunt #105---October 1-14, 2008

jaykaykay See Profile has chosen me to host our next challenging hunt. I am honored and hope to give you a great challenge.

I have a number of hobbies in addition to photography and really enjoy them. One of my favorites is one that I am just now starting over after letting go dormant for many years. That hobby is model railroading.

So the subject of this scavenger hunt is Railroad Scenes, things that might be modeled, including (but not limited to) locomotives, rolling stock, depots, roundhouses, other railroad scenes.

The usual Hunt Rules apply:

•Photos must be taken during the hunt time frame. No archived photos allowed!
•You may post as many entries as you wish.
•The person starting the hunt chooses the most creative photo and then passes the torch to the winner.
•The winner will host the next hunt.
•This hunt runs until OCTOBER 14 at 11:59:59PM Mountain Standard time.
•Good luck and most of all, have fun!

Best of luck

There's not much in the way of a Railroad system up in these parts, but there are remnants of trains from years ago. This is a dilapidated trestle that passes over a small area that is now a pasture. I'm not sure if it used to be a marsh years ago, or just a way to get from one section of high ground to another.

Those shots fit right in to another of my passions, preservation of our past. It would be nice to see some Railfan or Railroad historical group take up that cause and preserve that nice trestle before Nature takes it back herself.

Tough choice on the hunt.

I honestly hoped for more entries, I wonder if I made the topic a bit too hard, or if it had little interest?

Anyway I am picking from all the great shots, this one from EODDDPA See Profile.

It gives the feeling of a lonesome railroad, waiting on some action.

Great job everyone.

Sorry for the delay in picking, work for the past two days has had me hammered, doing 18 hours each day. Such fun. I need a vacation!!!

Well I for one would have loved to take some pics of the historic RR sites we have in my area. I tried in vain to find links to all of the history there.

I'll try again later, but the town of Davenport, IA look up information on "The Freight House" and for Bettendorf, IA the two brothers ran what was I think one of the main RR factories.

I did find a link to one greatly historic RR piece though, finally: »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_Bridge
