| ADSL dead since yesterday 3PM - long help desk wait times
Middletown, NY; My ADSL modem/router combo has not been able to complete the connection negotiation since 3PM yesterday. I swapped out my personally purchased Netgear for the Frontier provided 3Com 812 along with all telco cables and filters and still have the problem. Currently working on dial up, which sucks because I'm a telecommuter working in the GIS mapping field (big files). A bigger disappointment was the help desk. I called after dinner, after a short wait got a tech who took my information, put me on hold to talk to some one else, was on hold for close to 15 minutes, then the connection reverted back to the main call in number, rerouted back into the tech support queue with a hold time estimated to be 20 minutes that seemed closer to 40 minutes. The second tech of the night cut a trouble ticket on my problem and said a tech would come out tomorrow. That means some one has to be here from 8 AM to ? PM. Wish they could have at least said AM or PM. Now I have to cancel out on some local volunteer work. My last major failure was June 10th, similar issues after a storm came thru. I suspect a bad card in the remote DSLAM on the corner of Wawayanda and Kirbytown, but I didn't want to get too technical on them. Interesting to note the help desk did not jump all over me this time for having a non Frontier provided ADSL modem/router. The only reason I got it was because a few years back when I called and asked them if they had upgrades for the ancient 3Com 812 modem/router I was provided by Citlink for this PPPOA connection I was told there was no upgrade path and to use what I had. Last June I passed up on a Help Desk offering of a replacement router with a monthly rental fee. Between impending 5GB caps, down time, a reluctance on their part to provide business class ADSL to homes, and the extended down time I'm seriously thinking about jumping ship for a different ISP. At least Roadrunner seems to be heading towards higher than 5GB caps. I know it is more money but work pays the bill and I've already had this option blessed by my manager in Atlanta. Let the games begin. |
