Cool thanks for the info. I have been hearing ads on my XM that advertise a channel and they give both the xm and sirius channel and people from sirius are calling in the the xm show opie & anthony, I think its pretty cool. Now I just have to see if I can listen to sirius programming

Hmmmm...I guess I'll just keep my Sirius Everything package. I looked at Sirius Everything plus the Best of XM, and just don't see any XM stuff that would be worth the extra money. Best of XM only adds Oprah, Opie & Anthony, XM Public Radio, and a bunch of sports. I have absolutely no interest in the sports, and could care less about Oprah. I've never heard Opie & Anthony before so don't know if I'd like them or not, and I'm not going to pay the extra money to find out. I might consider it again in the future if they add some other stuff that might interest me.

How come you need a new radio for the ala carte stuff? Is that stuff on the XM frequencies or some other codec or something?

Yea. I took a look at the Best of XM offering and was a bit disappointed. Like you, I'll just stick to what I already have.
However, when I fired up my home receiver this morning, it "updated" the channels. I don't know what has changed.

I just called to add the sirius xtra to my xm, I have been wanting the nfl channel for so long now. I recently bought the XpressRC radio and paid 3 months of service when I bought it. To UPGRADE i was told if I change my package I would have to pay $100 cancellation fee because when I purchased that radio I agreed to a 1 year contract (I have had xm since 2004) and upgrading would break that contract.

So I never understand how upgrading a service is so hard to get done. I did speak with a 2nd woman who told me if I wait til oct 16th (when the 3 months I paid in advance covers until) then they can add that to my account and start charging me then. Its only 15 days away, but they could have had 2 weeks of extra money from me and now I have to wait.

In all I am glad I could do it but it took a 50min call and a lot of problems to get the upgrade

They made an announcement a while back that a la carte would require a new type of receiver which isn't out yet. I believe they said the new receivers would be out by the end of this year. I'm sure they'll probably try to have them out by the holiday shopping season.

With the factory Sirius receiver that's in my '06 Mazda, I can choose any package except for the a la carte stuff. With my other receivers I can only choose Sirius Everything, Mostly Music, or Mostly Talk...no a la carte, and no Sirius Everything plus the Best of XM.

I noticed my Mazda did an update yesterday, but I don't know if it made any changes to anything or not.

Actually in the Ala Carte section there is a link that takes you to one receiver that works for it. It's the Starmate 5 that will cost $129.99 if I'm remembering right.

While the a la carte radios are tempting, I'm probably gonna wait until the full dual-band radios arrive before upgrading.

Didn't see baseball in any of the packages. Wonder if that is going to be a separate package?

It will be a couple of years for me to buy any new receivers. I will wait as well for something that is universal before throwing money at something that is out of date in a couple months.

Took a look at the "Best of XM" listing and saw all the sports they offer but MLB. Could be a contract thing MLB made with XM but I can't say for sure. That's just my best guess.

I noticed that too and the same goes for the "Best of Sirius" on XM. WTF is up with that?

Currently I'm sticking with the "Mostly Music" package until more radios are out on the market to choose from. I'm hoping by then I can make up my mind to get Ala Carte from both sides or just go full blown into both lol.

If I understand correctly (but I could be wrong), the music portion is going to end up being the same on both.

This is disappointing.

They are really only offering XM subscribers five new channels (Best of Sirius) while all the other tiers are just variations of the standard XM offerings. I'm not interested in any of the five.

Just got an '09 Pontiac last week with an XM radio installed. Don't think that I'm going to be spending money and changing it out just to pick up the a la carte Sirius stations, which is the only tier I would have wanted to pick up anyway.

I now use the external XM radio I used to have in my old car with my home stereo. Don't listen to it enough there to want to spend the money to replace it with a receiver that will pick up the a la carte channels.

XM isn't going to make any more money off me with this merger, it seems.
