Oh I see... looks like CABLECARDS are $5.00 a month now.
So that's where this guy is getting $5.00 a month.
Insight has no non PVR HD box, its only if you have a TV with a cablecard slot, which I bet you don't. |

| reply to bigredtbone There is only TWO WAYS to get HD channels other than local stations which are transmitted in clear QAM.
ALL the other HD channels are strictly proprietary digital cable channels.
There are only TWO/THREE WAYS to get receive them.
a) Get a HD PVR Box from Insight, its $15 per TV. Not a cheap solution at all.
b) Have a TV with a built in CABLECARD slot, and get a cable card from insight which will allow that TV to tune in digital cable stations. Cablecards are $1.50 a month.
- Only problem is that, not very many TV's have cablecard slots anymore, because the cable industry screwed it up the tv mfgr's all pretty much gave up on it. If you have an older HDTV like say 2-3 years+ old, it might have a cable card slot, newer than that they are rare.
c) Have a new HD TIVO PVR, which also has cablecard slots. Again, its only $1.50 a month for the cablecards, but its $500-800 for the TIVO and maybe $15/month for the tivo service.
SO YES... 'additional equipment may be required' = Use our $15/month PVR or you use a Cablecard which not many new TV's even support anymore.
Insight is smoking some SERIOUS GRASS if they really think these are sensible options for their customers. |

| reply to Guest You need basic and classic service and an HD DVR(I think) to get more than the local channels in HD. It will cost you about $60 a month for all that.
I don't know what equipment costs $5.00 per month. Do you have a link for the $5.00 Digital 4.0 equipment? |

| reply to bigredtbone call me weird, but i actually like to stay current on "current events", especially recently, the ability to watch CNN and others in HD is nice, seeing as i have a HDTV & pay for HD service, any time a channel is broadcasting in HD and analog/digital i will always choose HD, even if it is to watch grass grow or senators talk about stupid stuff, anything in HD is better than nothing |

| reply to superakcraig I have a question and was wondering if someone would be able to help me?
I am in the Louisville market and I just got a new LCD HDTV set. Using the digital tuner, I can get the very basic HD programming (WLKY, WHAS, WAVE, etc). Im looking on the Insight website and it states that their cable tv has basic and classic channels. It also has Basic HD Channels (which is what I'm getting with the digital tuner), and Classic HD Channels. There is a little disclaimer that states "HDTV set, Basic Service, and HD receiver required to receive all HD Channels.
Looking further on the website, it stated that the Digital 4.0 equipment costs an extra $5.00 a month.
Am I wrong to assume that if I add the digital 4.0 box for $5.00 more a month, I could be able to get the Classic HD channels that is supposed to be included in the basic cable tv package? |

| reply to bigredtbone Just wanted to point out in case no one noticed, we now have ABC Family and Disney in HD in the Louisville market now. I noticed it last night. The 25 days of Christmas might be nice in HD (not that alot of the cartoons they show will be in HD but at least it will be clear). -- Here I Come to Save the Day!! |

| reply to superakcraig I agree 100%, it's hard to scroll through and see whats on because you get all the garbage intermixed. I wish they would organize them so the "Free" ones were all together, then the ones you get if you get the digital choice, then the ones for the rediculus HD Pack, then the subscription ones, then the ON Demand stuff. If I want to watch something that is On Demand, I just push the button on my remote. I'm also waiting for Disney HD here in NKY. |

| reply to YogiYahooeys said by YogiYahooeys :Please Insight, give us some way to configure the guide to take out these useless (regardless of how many choices they have within them) On Demand Channels. Either that or get rid of the channels entirely... I have to agree. Having all those On Demand channels can really be a pain to search through. If nothing else, put them at the end of the list. Start with 999 and go backwards. Don't put channels then on demand channels then more channels. This organization of channels just doesn't make sense. -- Here I Come to Save the Day!! |

| reply to bigredtbone OK, so, sure, this is nice and all, but the channels dedicated to On Demand themes are getting absolutely ridiculous! They're neutering the on screen cable guide !
There's just no point... OK, I take that back... I guess the point is to try and sell more on demand programs, but it's ruining the service. Not only that, it's also obviously getting too detailed. If I go to the channel "HD Movies OD Horror & Sci-Fi" what do I find there? First, a menu titled "Sci Fi", I selected that, then I get an option titled "A-Z", and then my final results? "Prom Night - HD". That's it!?! That's why we have a menu dedicated to HD On Demand Horror and Sci Fi? Who thought this up?
Please Insight, give us some way to configure the guide to take out these useless (regardless of how many choices they have within them) On Demand Channels. Either that or get rid of the channels entirely...
Sorry for the rant... just a little frustrated trying to browse through the new channels... :/ |
