Thanks for the last 7 years SE, but it's time to move on

After much soul searching its finally time to move on to another ISP. I have been a SE customer for just over 7 years, but started searching for alternatives when my wife and I started looking for a new apartment.

I joined SE in 2001, after Onvoy decided they wanted out of the residential DSL market. I had static IPs and ran a couple servers at home. SE was then, and for many years afterward was the best deal going for those of us who wanted to run servers at home. I upgraded my 608/128 dedicated line to line-sharing 1500/384 in 2003, and about 2 months later I started having problems with the line dropping in the evenings. Many calls/emails to SE support in that time eventually resulted in a Covad technician visit, but no resolution on the issue. SE didn't have a means of escalating beyond Covad, so I was stuck. 6 months later the voice line died completely, and I called up the local telco who repaired the line, and also the DSL connectivity issue. Apparently it was a loose connector in the street-level telco panel that was oxidized and letting moisture in. Had the issue been escalated beyond Covad, my problem would have been solved many months before. Since that time, my connection has been rock solid.

Due to increased usage on my home servers this year, I decided to migrate everything to a hosting company, and as a result no longer need static IPs. The options for dynamic IP are far more cost competitive these days, and SE just doesn't measure up. I was able to get service from the local telco at 6000/768 for less than I was getting my 1500/384 even after the customer loyalty discount!

I very much appreciate the years of service has given me, but its time to move on...
