| [360] Xbox 360 HDMI to DVI
I just got the 360 elite to play with after i traded my Wii. I use the AV cable to connect to the TV. The problem is, the resolution of the CRT TV (it is from 2000)is often too small for games, so that it is often time impossible to see the small words, like press a button to do something, I can't see what button it is talking about. So now I want to use the HDMI output with a HDMI to DVI cable to output the video to a computer LCD screen so that I can see the details. My question is, HDMI includes audio while DVI is video only, how do I also output the audio? |

| What is the source of the sound? Does it have an optical output?
Does the HDMI to DVI cable have an optical port on it? If so you could just plug in the optical cable to the DVI and connect it to your sound source optical output.. If it doesn't have that option then the other one would be this..

This has an optical output on it so you can indeed connect it and have sound.

| I think it has an optical port on the component/AV cable (right on the big plug). The cable also has the red and white stereo cable. I prefer stereo line since I don't have optical cable. Actually I got two cables. The long one that has component, AV and optical output, also a short one that has optical, and the red and white stereo output (this one is only for audio output I think?). |

| reply to kmcheng Well if you don't have an optical output than you will need to use the Red, White.
I believe you would need something like this

you would plug the red, white into that and then plug the 3.5mm into the sound output.
You stated that you didn't have the Optical Cable, I would suggest getting that instead of the above if you do indeed have an optical output. The sound is a lot better and Optical cables can be found for the same price or cheaper.

| I know I would probably need a RCA to 3.5mm earphone plug line for the stereo output. For the optical output, I know it is better than the stereo output, the problem is I just have those normal 2.0 computer speaker, no fancy HiFi speakers that can accept optical output. I mean, unless I specifically buy one, which I am not going to. |

| by the way, the audio only output cable I talked about is this. »i4.ebayimg.com/07/i/001/11/02/1451_1.JPG
I have a long stereo to 3.5mm mini jack cable to connect the stereo output to the 2.0 computer speaker. |

@comcast.net | reply to kmcheng You need the xbox 360 vga cable. This will split the sound seperate into both rca and 3.5 mm, which most pcs accept. |

| reply to MuDvAyNe I tested It worked just as I expected. HDMI to DVI cable for video, and then the audio adapter with the RCA to 3.5mm mini jack cable. The only glitch in the process is, at first the Dell WS LCD monitor says it can't display the video mode (scared me to death ), may be at that time the video mode hasn't change yet. Then I try the Samsung one, it works. Try back the Dell, it's working this time. The only mistake I made is, the video cable is too short, I need an DVI M-F extension cable to do the job. Also, since it is displayed on a LCD monitor, so it somehow still feel like playing computer game, not a console game. |
