@comcast.net | Hole on new driveway... is it normal?
I had a new concrete driveway done in July 2007, I also had it sealed. By Spring I have had a lot of holes coming out anywhere from 1" to 3". Is this normal? |

flibby3655 Premium join:2004-12-19 Lompoc, CA | No, that is not normal. Can you post pictures? |

@comcast.net | Yes, I'll take pictures this weekend and post them. |

| reply to joli6 Hello, Okay, I'm attaching some photos of the holes I took of my driveway. These holes are all over my driveway. Does anyone know what I need to do to get this rectified. Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again |

| reply to joli6 That is definatly normal if you have used a snow plow on it, or even did some shovelling on it. I don't know where you are located but from the pictures I can see a locust tree loosing it's leaves in preperation for the winter. -- THIS IS SPENCER. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED - I HAVE JOE. robbin Premium,MVM join:2000-09-21 Leander, TX | It looks to me like a poor quality of aggregate was used. The white objects are a soft rock which expands when it absorbs water. Proper aggregate should not contain such "rock". |

@QWEST.NET | reply to joli6 Do not live near snow so nothing about plowing.
Just almost looks like a top coat of concrete applied over a base of concrete. More than likely wrong so just a guess. |

| reply to joli6 Have you used Salt for De-icing...mine did the same thing...but then again mine is over 20 years old. That almost looks like the used gravel from a gravel driveway instead of aggrigate they were supposed to do. I would call the person who did this and demand they talk to the cement company. I would be very mad at this. |

| reply to joli6 The most common cause of spalling like that is a driveway that was allowed to dry too rapidly after being poured.
If the surface dries before it cures, you will see similar to what is in the pictures.

Also how long did you let it cure before driving on it? -- Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity.

@comcast.net | So given what was shown from my photos, what should I ask the concrete company to do? Can they do anything? |

Edit: BTW where do you live? |

In Illinois So it's safe to say you get freeze/thaw conditions. The reason I stated that I don't think they will do any thing about it is whenever I've had problems concerning concrete finish. The batch plant will say it's the finishers that screwed up then the finishers blame the batch plant and it never really seems to end. Especially if the contractor has been paid and any amount of time has passed. |

If the concrete all came from the same batch plant using the same aggregate source, you and your neighbors may be able to go after the batch plant. We use mix designs when putting bids out, then have the mix tested during the pour. |
