| Is firmware change easy for 5851 and 2200 SDSL modems?
I'm looking to acquire a pair of 5851 or 2200 SDSL modems for use in back-to-back mode. I see that not just any model will do, but it must be one such as the 5851-005 which is made for point-to-point applications.
This is my question; If I get a related model such as the 5851-001, is it easy to change the firmware to make it a 5851-005? |

| From my limited understanding, it is the having the correct ASIC file and the right Models to make it work.
Along with the 120-5851-005, the 060-5851-031 can also be used.
Firmware can be updated using multiple paths. You can use the Configuration Manager. Or TFTP, or Telnet. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

Would things be simpler if I used a pair of Netopia R7100-C SDSL Routers? I can work with tftp etc, but would be interested if there was a model that could be easily configured for B2B using the web interface. |

| Well, many sellers don't know how to turn on the router, so when I'm shopping for a -005 can I assume that all -005 models will have 5851-005 labeled on the exterior?
Thanks for the pointers and pdf link. I had actually found and read all those documents and more before posting, but thanks just the same. I didn't see anything that said we can flash an -002 to be an -005, so it's be my guess that this is not easily possibly.
The model description reference document I've found is rebrand.pdf. It lists 8 variants of the 5851. |

So currently you have no 5851s at all? Yes, all Speedstreams have their Model Number and Part Number on the bottom of the unit. Flip them over.

Or get two 5851-005 so you can have the faster link speeds.

I had found the kb.efficient.com site and got some stuff there, but it went off line late yesterday just as I was about to download 5851 kernels. Fortunately it came back on line today and I got some kernels.
There is a model 060-5851-055 I could buy, but it's not listed on any docs I can find. From the '060' I can tell it's RapidSecure, but that all I know about it so far. |

eBay has:
