| Newegg.ca
Hey guys. For all you PC hardware nuts out there. Newegg is now shipping to Canada. www.newegg.ca
Im super stoked about it because the egg is one of the things i miss most about living in the states. They have the best selection and often get hardware WAY before anyone else does. Their shipping is wicked fast often arriving a day early.
It will be interesting to see how fast they will be drop shipping to us north of the border and how they will tackle duty but we shall see. |

| reply to bacon612 I'll probably continue to just use NCIX as i've used them in the past and there great and just do a price match if it's cheaper over at newegg.
Probably only order from newegg if i can't find that item at NCIX. |

| reply to bacon612 So far, the response to NewEgg's Canadian launch is overwhelmingly negative. Reasons I'm seeing:
1) They only ship from the US 2) They only ship via UPS 3) Their shipping charges are insane 4) They charge both QST and PST 5) Their prices are much higher than the US site and other stores
For an example of how much of a ripoff it is:
Intel Core 2 Quad 9450, final price shipped (.com for comparison): NewEgg.com: $319.99 NewEgg.ca: $440.48 Infonec: $366.43
NewEgg costs 21% more! How do they expect to compete like this. |

Don't worry, I don't think NCIX has much to worry about at this point. |

Updated prices above; forgot to include brokerage fee ($1) from NewEgg. |

Most likely NewEgg is brokering the shipments themselves or through a third party, in which case UPS does not charge brokerage themselves. |

| reply to Guspaz Coudn't agree more about the taxes and shipping. Also a point to remember. In case of returns we pay shipping to the US. the cost of the shipping on smaller items may well be as much as some smaller items.
Looks like newegg is trying to make a few extra points on the pricing. |

| reply to bacon612 I got the invitation for the sneak peak last week, and the pricing was pretty bad. They asked for comments, so I said for a "grand opening" it was pretty pathetic.
The reply: Please note, this is a beta launch was not intended as a grand opening sale as only a limited number of subscribers were invited to review the site. Stayed tuned for the official launch coming soon.
I saw the grand opening pricing yesterday, and the prices were better but still fairly ho-hum; about the only item that stood out was a Sonata III case for C$85.
NCIX always does the right thing by me, so I'll stick with them even if their prices turn out higher. |

| reply to bacon612 i just priced out a few vanilla products, 4870, phenom BE 9850 and some ram. Pricing is neck and neck bewtween. NCIX and Newegg.ca. It costs the same $15 to ship a 4870 from BC to Toronto that newegg wants. Someone complained about shipping.
I checked the .ca returns page and you have to purchace RMA return shipping through the egg by calling a 1-800#. Most likely for a discount negotiated with UPS. This is also the reason they use UPS exclusively.
I think the main negative differences between the egg and ncix will be:
1. the PST factor. The extra tax sucks
2. how long an item would take to get to my door from the time I order it. It was STUPID fast within the US. I doubt it will be speedy here. Border tends to slow things down.
3. RMA will most likely take longer too.
4.Supporting a US company versus a Canaidan one.
On the positive side:
1. Their buying power commands a insane amount of skus allowing more variety of product and usually get it faster than anyone (sometimes globally). Trust me on this. Ive been driving to my shipping address in Buffalo frequently over the past few years to get hardware when i want it fast.
2. Their site is awesome. Just try buying something. E-tailers all over the world try to model themselves after their checkout process. NCIX has needed an update for 4 years now. For web devs out there, OScommerce? C'mon ncix. Please get with the times.
I'm about to create an account with newegg.ca and order myself a bluetooth mouse for a new laptop. Ill post back when I receive it. |

Ugh Tigerdirect I order from them once and never again. They send me wrong parts. NOT ONE WAS the one I order. I have two useless cpu fans with heatsink.
I shop at Infonec, it's not far from me so I don't order online. BTW UPS will break your stuff, I have heard people throwing things like monitors around. I would never deal with UPS. |

| reply to ftp1020 Infonec's regular price on the Sonata III (with PSU) is $103. NewEgg's $85 is an OK sale, but not exactly spectacular.
I'm surprised so many people buy from NCIX, their pricing is always way higher than other stores. There's not any point buying anything from NCIX unless it's on sale, otherwise other places charge way less. |

| reply to bacon612 When I buy from NCIX there is always a tactic, first check locally ... I want my stuff fast, and nothing is faster then walking in and buying it. Second check the price ... usually NCIX beats most prices at face-value ... but one must take into consideration shipping, what type of saving (Instant or MIR), and time constraints ... only then do I proceed to checkout.
I'm all about CanadaComputers, there service is piss-poor but god damn prices are insane sometimes ... like sometimes I wonder if they took stuff out of a truck bound for futureshop mafioso style? |
