[Other] Future-nine's future?

Alright nitzan.. you know you love to hear yourself talk (free advertising) and you should know I love to hear you talk (knowing you’re going to be in business for the long term)

So I'm going to address the question I most have with you about a long term business relationship..

I have already tested your business through helping my sister adopt voip and it seems to have gone well, mostly.. and with you getting "Global Call Hunt" I'm ready to consider a permanent trial (I have thusly ordered my pap2t)

Since I've tried your service I know already all the problems you have and I've named them..
Your missing
- Automated emails
- Just a normal billing systems credit cards and the like
- Vonages cool and instant ability to activate 2ndary virtual numbers (last I checked you guys had to do some backend work on that)
- Definitely a better control panel but you could also do with a site upgrade (I’m not that picky though)

What I'm really wanting to know about our these features in the future if you'll be providing them..
- Call Filtering, Call Blocking a database of numbers that can't pass through..
- Call logs, including more than 1 more number (even if virtual)

Long term plans for the business..
- Staying with it and just being a small business owner when voip over-shadows everything even potentially your profitability (should someone do it right)
- Making a deal to sell

- Call Filtering, Call Blocking a database of numbers that can't pass through..
This is definitely high on the priority list. With more and more phone spam making it's way to the market it'll be a must soon - so yes, this will definitely be there eventually.

- Call logs, including more than 1 more number (even if virtual)
There actually is a very powerful call log history search engine already built-in to the software we use. Might not be very user friendly, but you should be able to find pretty much anything with it. I'm compiling a sort-of "user guide" for FN, so I guess I'll put searching call logs in there.

Long term business plans:
No plans to sell. Unlike other providers, we're built economically from the ground up. This isn't another start up where some investors put in money in the hope of re-selling the business once it reaches X subscribers (despite the fact it's been losing money all along). Our investors are family, with no intention of selling. And despite a serious lack of sleep I love running Future Nine!

If I'm not being to nosy or impertinent, nitzan, with reference to "it's been losing money all along", which of the following applies to you:

1) Your are independently wealthy and started F-9 as a hobby.
2) You are old and retired from the workplace and were just looking for something to do, to keep dementia at bay.
3) You actually have a real day job (since many of your posts are done in the wee hours) and F-9 is designed to earn you a little extra pocket money on the side.
4) You were downsized from your CEO or COO or CFO or CTO or C3P0 position with a major telecommunications company and the cords on your golden parachute shredded upon jumping from their ivory tower, causing minor brain damage when you hit the pavement below.
5) You inherited a fortune from a recently deceased grand uncle who discovered oil in the Negev. [I can see it now ... F9 logos replacing Q8 signs on pumps at petrol stations throughout the former Soviet bloc countries.]
6) You are an escapee from a state psychiatric facility with visions of grandeur, planning eventually to take over ATT/SBC and Verizon ... and ultimately the world.

N9MD, great post, looking forward to Nitzan's response.

But the airlines, the car companies, the country itself, are all losing money.

So why not Nitzan too, as long as he can have some fun.

I think you misinterpreted what I was writing - Future Nine is not losing money - on the contrary. It already makes enough profit at this point to be able to pay me a modest salary.

I of course hope to turn "modest" into "great" eventually, but the point is that I do not have nor need a day job. Future Nine is my day job.

N9MD, is this self-descriptive? . . .active on various forums, just to keep busy?

I'll meet you half way, nitzan. I "misinterpreted" your syntactically "misleading" subordinate clause.

I'm only making conversation, not criticising. But your sentence read: "This isn't another start up where some investors put in money in the hope of re-selling the business once it reaches X subscribers (despite the fact it's been losing money all along)."

I understood the subjective pronoun "This" to reference F-9 ... making the "it" contained in the subordinate clause "it's been losing money" dependent upon the subject "This" ... which would indicate that it referred to F-9.

I learned all this from my Grammar

-=-=-=

Incidentally, my inquiring post did have an underlying motive. Some of us were curious as to whether F-9 is a full time or part time endeavor. You have, indeed, answered that question. Thanks!

nitzan,

Since you are "2008's #1 cheapest residential Voice over IP service provider!", what reasoning do you have behind dodging the FCC requirement for E911?

Good guess, oddgeezer. But actually #1 more correctly defines me ... I am independently wealthy and post in the BBR Forums as a hobby.

In fact, Warren Buffett and I are thinking of carrying out a hostile takeover of the BBR Forums.

I'm not sure how being cheap relates to E911 (one would think they are opposites) - but nobody's dodging anything. Our problems with E911 are technical and not financial, and we are working on them, and actually making good progress.

I am out of the country right now, but should be back next week and continue to work on it full steam ahead.

I don't know if it is legal to implement this: send out a re-ordered (disconnection) tone to the blocked caller. This may automatically trigger spammer predictive dialer to flag/remove the number from their call list(s).

There really should be no problem if the database were user-maintained with user-determined or specified actions. User-specified actions by database entry could include sending directly to selective voicemail, sending a re-order tone, forwarding to the another obnoxious telemarketing company, sending the call to the IVR from hell with no way out, or flushing down the toilet accompanied by appropriate sound files.

You could ... but you are comparing apples to oranges ... which is not a bad thing, but just means that each company offers something quite different to perspective customers.

Future-Nine is promoted in this Forum --- by Nitzan the CEO, President, Boss, CTO, etc. --- as a low price VoIP provider with the option to rent a device from them (PAP2T Analog Telephone Adapter) or bring your own device (BYOD). Currently they do not offer a full feature set (as do many other providers) but Nitzan is adding features from time to time with future plans to match many of the other providers, I suspect. Nitzan's presence in these Forums is beneficial both to him -- because he gets good feedback and suggestions from others -- and to F9 customers who have the ability to contact Nitzan directly with problems or issues. Probably most of Future-Nine's customer base will either have some technical skills to "play" with the service ... or the customers will have been steered to F9 by a techie relative who resides in the BBR Forums.

VOIPo will soon be available to the public with a full set of features but with much less hardware, software flexibility to the end user (that's you). VOIPo will supply you with an ATA without the BYOD option ... and will offer a thoroughly tested (2 years in limited participation beta thus far, being put through its paces by a select group of rather knowledgable BBR Forum members). It will not be offered as a "cheap" service, but it is expected to have a full technical and customer support department behind it. It appears that VOIPo's target audience will be non-technical folks who just want telephone service that offers more included features with monthly costs well below that of the PSTN carriers (Verizon, ATT/SBC, Qwest, etc.)

Regarding porting from Future-Nine to VOIPo, your question is a bit too narrow in scope. In actuality, you can port from almost every existing VoIP provider to almost every other existing VoIP provider. Most providers receiving the ported number will charge you, usually $25, because it costs the provider money to move the number over to their CLEC (the company that is the source for telephone numbers and routing calls to your provider's servers).

Beware, if you sign up for an Annual Plan with many of the providers and then decide to port your number to another provider midway through your annual contract, you may have to pay a cancellation penalty. So be sure to read the TOS (Terms of Service) on each provider's website before jumping in.

There are several very good and reasonably good providers out there, with a variety of monthly/annual plans, features sets, customer support, and reliable service (i.e., excellent "up-time" and clear two-way audio), with one or more of these providers surely well-suited you your personal needs. However, you have not itemized your actual proposed VoIP monthly usage (incoming & outgoing calling) and feature requirements.

So before you make the leap, check out these posts that gives you some idea of what information will be useful in making your ultimate selection of a VoIP provider.

Sure, we process ports every day. No porting fees or anything like that on any of our accounts including residential or express plans (incoming PSTN/SIP forwarding).
