| [Newsgroups] Comcast canceling newsgroups! I am sure all of you got the email from comcast telling us they are bailing on the giganews on 10-25-08. If we want to use newsgroups after that you have to pay! Does Wow still offer newsgroups? I still use them and find them very helpful at times. Might be enough to make me do the switch to Wow!

 | Yeah, just got an email from them too. What ever happened to a contract? We signed on with newsgroups included, and now they take them away? I know they reserve the right to alter terms of the contract at any point (what is the point of the contract, as a set of promises between two parties) by yanking the newsgroup feature?
So what is Wow about, and where do I check for availability? |

hep catdo da dirdy bird join:2001-02-17 Decatur, GA | dadkins, the e-mail Comcast sent out had this. "Giganews is offering a special promotion for Comcast customers." Well looking at the special promotion $7.99 for 2GB. The regular price is $7.99 for 2GB. Looks special to me. -- Bowling: It's cleaner than baseball. |

As of October 25, 2008, the complimentary Comcast Newsgroups service, powered by Giganews, will be discontinued. This feature provided customers access to 2 gigabytes of newsgroup information on a monthly basis. After this date, these customers will no longer be able to access the Comcast Newsgroups service through Comcast. Customers who have subscribed directly to Giganews for newsgroup access will not be affected by this change.
While we have seen a decline in popularity of newsgroups as customers have chosen to get information from other sources, we know a small percentage of our customers continue to use newsgroups today. If you are interested in continuing to access newsgroups, Giganews is offering a special promotion for Comcast customers. Click here to learn more.
Thank you for being a valued customer.

 | reply to sportsdadmi Man, I just got this email today too and am pissed about it. Yeah most people don't use much less even know about the usenet, but I did. Used up that 2GB of newsgroup access every month and was always looking forward to the 25th every month when it would reset again. I certainly got use out of it and just gives me more reason to LOATHE that company. F'n monopoly. I'd dump these asshats in a heartbeat if I were able to get anything else. |

 | reply to sportsdadmi I just called Verizon. They still offer newsgroup access as part of a subscription. Along with the rate hike Comcast posted for 11/1 my rate went from $127/mo. to $185/mo. Goodbye Comcast, Hello FiOS!!! |

I'm finished with Comcast ASAP...which is when I have some competition get here. |
