| Need help with "No Answer" problem.
I've been using Viatalk for over two years (same Cable ISP during the time as well). Of late (last 3-4 weeks) I've been having a lot of issues: 1. Caller gets dead silence for 10-15 seconds before the ring and eventual connection. 2. Caller gets 2-3 rings and then dead silence. 3. When I answer the phone the person at the other end does not hear my first or second "hello", it seems to take about 5-10 seconds after I pick up the phone for the person at the other end to hear me. 4. Outgoing calls result in dead air some times. 5. Network unavailable forwarding also becomes flaky some times. Most of the incoming problems result in a status of "No Answer" on the call log.
I do have an answering machine at home as well as have the Viatalk Voicemail enabled. The settings I have at CP is supposed to ring my home phone for 30 seconds and if there is no answer then ring my cell phone for 20 seconds and then go to Viatalk Voicemail. If everything works and nobody is home my answering machine picks up by 20 seconds. If I have the answering machine switched off, then the 20 second ring on my Cellphone rings about 3-4 times and then (cellphone voice mail needs 8 rings) should go to Viatalk Voicemail. None of this seems to work any more.
One thing that always works is the Dial Tone and once connected I've not had any one-way audio issues. To rule out potential N/W issues at my end I've directly attached my (BYOD) PAP2 to the cable modem but this did not solve any of my problems. I've also tried quite a few of the Chicago servers. Tried out different DNS servers as well as use raw IP address for SIP servers. Never used STUN, with no NAT on the direct connection STUN is not a factor anyway.
Another strange thing I noticed on my CP is that I had about a dozen Custom Call Routing entries that I did not set up knowingly. These entries were set to Forward but there was no forwarding number associated. I wonder if setting Custom CallerId added these entries to Custom Routing as well. Clearing this did not seem to help.
I've tried calling support but they don't seem to understand the basics of IP Networking and so I'm unable to explain the issue in deep technical terms.
Anybody wants to help me out ? |
