[help] How should I start web presence?

My business partner and I run an import and export company that will be seeing many products within the next month or two, destined for both retail and wholesale sales. We're seeking to set up multiple web sites (of course:) as inexpensively as possible (we have perhaps $1K or $2K presently budgeted to developing the site). When I look at the FAQ and advertisments found in this forum and others, they all mention site-builder software available with even basic packages. How difficult are these to get running, and will they be flexible and powerful enough to sustain the business we expect? I've used ChannelMaster with a company I previously worked - it seemed to handle exactly what we're expecting - sales, processing and shipping information along with site maintenance.
Do any of you have any recommendations as to specific companies and sites to get us up and running quickly and easily (with room to expand)?
Thanks very much for any and all input. Yes we're swimming over our heads right now, but we're quick learners.
