| reply to bombashack I decided to give some more info. I'm a former BYOD user who just ordered a grandstream adapter. I have a Linksys router running Tomato and need to keep my adapter behind the router. I'd planned on turning off auto-provisioning and setting a fixed IP. VT Brendan, I see you posted a few minutes ago. Can you please help? |

| reply to bombashack Finally got thru to tech support and they freely gave out the password for setup access to my HT-502.
They did not give the password for Line2, however I was able to obtain it once I had the adapter login.
I also did some experimentation and determined conclusively that I could put the HT-502 behind my router, but in DMZ and it not only works fine; it is still being autoprovisioned by viatalk. I am running the autoprovision load with no changes. I configured the router to static-DHCP the HT-502 and set its static IP address in DMZ
All works perfectly! |

| dammit TJ, your thoughts are right on and it didn't take long. I'm trying to call home to my VT line, wife picks up, and we can't hear each other...OR, she picks up, but it keeps ringing on my end and goes to VM...OR, the call goes thru. Problem is this is telephone, we expect it to work reliably.
Before VT started upgrading their servers it all worked fine and reliability was reasonable, if not great. I kept my BYOD SPA 2102 behind a WRT-54Gl (Hyperwrt 2.1b1 + Thibor15c) with ports forwarded as instructed by VT. After server upgrades and pointing to Galvatron.vtnoc, the proverbial sh1t started to hit the fan. Long story short, I abandoned Hyperwrt 2.1b1 + Thibor15c in favor of Tomato and my SPA 2102 in favor of a VT provisioned HT-502.
I really don't want my VOIP adapter to do my routing but am at a loss as to what to try next; though I'm contemplating returning the HT-502 and going back to good ole reliable POTS. |

| reply to bombashack I have used various ATA's (HT-286, Zoom 5801, PAP2T-NA) behind a router---yes, behind---with no problem and no need for port forwarding.
In each case, the router was D-Link DGL-4100.
Surprisingly, you do need to go into this router's advanced settings, under ALG, and turn OFF (yes, OFF) the setting for SIP.
BTW, this worked not only with the various ATA's, but also with various providers, such as CallCentric, Callwithus, and Voip.MS |

| reply to bombashack MY GS doesn't do any of my routing. I have it in front of my WRT54GSv4, and the DD-WRT does it all. I agree with you about "before the upgrapes". My spa2102 worked fine, and still does with another provider, behind my router. I fought the problems, bit the bullet, and put an HT in front, and have not had any issues. My custom rings work fine, voice works fine, new servers work fine, all is well. In fact, my wife asked me the other day if we were using a different provider altogether! I changed the way our voicemail is delivered via e-mail about the same time, so I can see why the concern. (For some reason, notice by e-mail will only send the file to one email address. I have it going to one I created, and then bounced to multiples from there). I turned off provisioning on the HT, and have configured the second line to another provider, and it is working without issue, as well.
