Looks like AT&T needs to start upping their fees and building some cash in the bank in this coming time of tight credit. They spent a ton of money monopolizing (buying out the other Telcos, wireless spectrum, etc etc.)
Oh they're still making a ton of money, they just got tripped up by the current credit crunch.
The layoffs will help make sure the profits stay obscenely high.
