 | Merger failure had nothing to do with disperate technology The merger between Sprint and NEXTEL didn't fail because Sprint uses CDMA and NEXTEL uses iDEN, indeed others have run dual networks and in fact Telus in Canada chooses to run both a CDMA and iDEN network, so obviously it can be done. The failure of the merger was that our new overlords at Sprint had no idea how to deal with their new customers they acquired. That's understandable, Sprint being cell network of last resort for low/no credit subs that nobody else would take, and NEXTEL being the choice primarily of business customers with good credit and strong loyalties. Sprint incorrectly thought they could drive everybody off the iDEN network and onto the Sprint side, which failed miserably. It was already too late when they realized it.
So more power to NII Holdings (NEXTEL International). Maybe things will finally improve for us, seeing as how these people know how to manage an iDEN system. I can only hope Tim Donahue gets involved as well, the man turned NEXTEL into verb. -- "Don't steal. The government hates competition." |
