Re: Maybe an Improvment

Not exactly. It does update the PRL but it does not tell it about new towers. That is a misconception being perpetuated by verizon techs and techs at other CDMA companies. What is does is update that list telling it what towers to use first when roaming. Say you leave Verizon service area and your phone finds Sprint or Alltel it has to choose which to use. It looks at the PRL and sees Alltel above Sprint so uses the Alltel signal. If a new tower with Verizon goes up it will automatically pick it up as it will be using an SID that Verizon uses.

As far as 1900 v 800 I find it has more to do with how the network is built. In my area Sprint blows USCC out of the water. Even when they are on the same tower the USCC signal goes 5 miles while the Sprint signal goes around 15 miles (flat land). My guess is the downtilt for the USCC panels is a bit too much and causing them to get less range out of that, and others in this area, tower. That is causing a lot of dead areas for USCC which they are trying to fix by building more towers but they are slow to do any expansion.

I use Verizon Wireless.
They installed a couple towers here in Boothbay, but still the signal SUCKS at my home. (But good every place else)
However, there is a VERY HUGE tower near me that houses Unicell.
IF... Verizon does keep and change that tower, it will hugely improve my service signal at home.
You should do a *228 SEND select option 2 at least once a month.
It updates the PRL which "helps" your phone know about new towers.
(This is a very technical explanation)....lol

those are more for warehouse type buildings. Lowe's got suckered into buying those types from Nextel and they're a POS. let me find a few links to the ones that THD bought and put in some of their stores.

why buy something like that and keep paying for it when you can buy a Cell repeater for your home and only spend $5o one time and just use their cell tower.
I didnt buy it, I managed to snag it for free...only to pay the 4.99 a month for the service itself. I had never thought of the cell repeater. Any links to some good ones?

EDIT-- I just googled some and it seems most are up in the $300 range?

I'm still waiting for Verizons verson of this...
However. I read they charge like 15 dollars more a month for this service....
I am paying 4.99 a month. Many have gotten it for free through retentions...I love it so much I dont mind paying the charge though. All depends if you can put up with Sprint customer service.

That is the nature of CDMA technology. It does not penetrate buildings well at all.
I don't think that's a fair assessment of CDMA technology. I have 2 AT&T 3G phones and while the EDGE service has dead spots in my basement, the CDMA service provided by Verizon for my work cell phone works perfectly.
It certainly has to do with the signal strength outside to begin with. Sprint service running on 1900 Mhz (I believe) does not work well at all in any building I am in unless I have full bars outside to begin with. Verizon will always be a TAD better because they are at 800 Mhz or close to that which penetrates buildings a bit better.

I have Sprint (CDMA as well) and had the same issue with reception in home, but i signed up for there Airave device thing (like a mini cell phone tower for your home that connects to your router)..now have full bars.
