[Equipment] Caller ID during Numer Porting Process

I recently Signed up for service with VT. I am in the process of porting a number from Vonage. All seems to be proceeding smoothly - so far. The number I was assigned is supposed to be a temporary number but the Caller ID shows the temporary number and "AMANDA + DAVID" (whoever they are) as the Caller ID name.

I have ported numbers in the past (from POTS to Vonage and Vonage to Comcast) and they have both set it up so my porting number and name show as the Caller ID from signup and throughout the entire porting process. VT Rep Jodi Lagitch told me it would take 3-4 weeks to implement this for my temporary number and since my number port is due to be completed in about 2 weeks that I am going to have to live with "AMANDA + DAVID" as my Caller ID. Does this sound right? Why were Vonage and Comcast both able to implement this immediately as part of the process but ViaTalk is not? It really means I can't use my VT number until the porting process is complete - very frustrating.

Hi,

The process of 'updating' the information for some reason takes longer than the actual initial provisioning of it. It sounds as if that number was previously provisioned to someone with those names and they stuck. They can likely issue you a new temp. number if you like.

Brendan, Thanks for the lightning fast response (it's actually the reason I chose VT). However, I think it would only confuse my clients to see a different number and Caller ID for the next few weeks so I guess I'll have to avoid using VT for a few weeks until the port process is complete.
