do me a favor? Use command prompt to ping Google (use the "-t" switch to make it repeat forever...then use "control-c" to end it). Let it run for a bit, and then let us know what you come up with.

Either way, those are pretty awesome results, especially for wireless.

Fox:

I have it running now, I'll reply back after I send a couple thousand packets.

Last night I was doing this driving around and it would drop out completely, wouldn't drop packets. When it it drop packets, the entire connection went out.

One thing I did notice, being inside dramatically decreases the speed with this AirCard. I am going to move to teh

Fox: I didn't forget about you, I had it running and running and somehow I closed the window... Currently I have not dropped a single packet. Previously I dropped 3 and that's when I folded the antenna down, I could drop packets on demand.

Ping statistics for 209.85.171.99:
Packets: Sent = 991, Received = 991, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 88ms, Maximum = 374ms, Average = 130ms

Now, I have been walking around my building also. (1 floor brick/steel, large, 10,000sf-ish) Inside the speed drops a lot. If I go out on to the dock, I am within line of sight to the tower. (1,884.91' according to Google Earth)

Completely Stationary, sitting on the kitchen table while I got stuck on calls:
Ping statistics for 64.233.187.99:
Packets: Sent = 2017, Received = 2017, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 54ms, Maximum = 174ms, Average = 94ms

I am at work sitting in the lunchroom watching the Sox game using it right now taking calls and it beats the snot out the T1 here.

punk: In Burr Ridge Right now that's where I am using it. In Bolingbrook at 53 and Boughton where I live, it doesn't work =(

I have to check the west side of Bolingbrook, perhaps i'll do that on my way home.

Hmm, I was hoping to see better latency than that; while the 54 ms is better than EVDO could ever be, the 94 ms is not much better than EVDO Rev. A's average of around 100-115 ms to Google.

Neato!

You should try the »/linequality test here. It will show a link at the top of the page that you can post here and show us what you get.

And the Java speed tests here might give a more accurate result on your uploads cuz they sure are fast!

So you're using the Chicago network? I thought it wasn't up yet? I'm in Park Ridge and I'm eagerly waiting for it to launch... did I miss something?

The network is up, but devices are not being sold/supported for Chicago yet. People are buying devices and specifying Baltimore as their home address, but actually using the service in Chicago.

Now this is what i'm talking about! Granted, the service is hardly even strained as it is very new.. As long as the kiddies don't just bogg down the system downloading movies/porn/pirated crap 24/7 this technology will have a fun chance.... But i'm sure some lame ass cap will appear soon (( read: 5gig cap of gayness ))

Well I'm back sitting at my desk where I had previously ran the "In Building" test above and I can't even get connected this morning. The signal is very low and it attempts to connect, but won't fully go through.

I was able to use it Friday night in Bolingbrook near Weber and Boughton and the latency was significantly higher and I was only pulling 2000kb/s down and 1300 kb/s up again, I was within line of site of the tower. I'd post the speedtest, but since I can't get connected I can't get into the speedtest.net history.

I wonder if they blocked me from this tower?

You gotta remember u bought a device to work on a network that is not commercially launched yet.. Expect the unexpected for a while..

I finally got a chance to go outside and my card still won't connect. I know that this is not commercially launched, I'm mearly reporting my findings.

Outside I have full service. We are currently without power so I am wondering if that has something to do with it.

I can't wait for this to hit Chicago/ Park Ridge. Finally, living near the city pays off. Any speculation as to when the USB modem will be available? I really don't want to get the laptop card as I'm buying a laptop next year for college and I want to be able to use this no matter what I get.. plus desktops too.
