CMoore2004 : Ironically enough, the AP's sold in the US can't have the firmware that allows them to use that frequency. Even if they do get into those extra channels, they're still far from the spectrum used for Xohm.

Microwaves will interfere with most equipment, though. They just throw radio signals everywhere, but they don't usually travel far enough to be a problem, unless the phone is near the microwave. I also had to put a high-powered router at my dad's because the Internet on his wife's computer would go out whenever she talked on the phone. I looked at it as a convenience, but apparently she didn't get the concept.

anon : Well, I don't know if Xohm is ready for primetime. I'm in downtown DC, in a very green area on the coverage map. My home Zytel modem drops its connection constantly. Like 5-10 times a day - I have to unplug and replug it to get a connection. And speeds have dropped dramatically - now web pages don't even load completely. Ever. Even after 10 full minutes. I called them and they don't know what's what. They say if I keep having trouble they'll send a tech to toubleshoot the towers around here. But as for now, it's not a very workable replacement for cable if you need a reliable connection. Hope they get it fixed.

I found that for me the best spot in the house is actually in a open window on the second floor. if I set the modem on the window sill with the window closed it doesn't establish a connection -.-. Keep in mind that when its sitting in the open window its getting 2-3 signal strength bars, it bounces between 2 and 3 (excluding the wimax connector light). when on the window sill it bounces between 1 and 2 signal bars favoring 1. -.- Thats a dramatic difference from just a closed window. But fear not, there are actually products you can buy to help spread the signal around. they are wifi repeaters and cost 100 dollars or more. You have to get a repeater that can use the channel in which xohm is transmitting otherwise its simply a waste. However the customer service support will not tell you what channel it is transmitting in(by channel i mean frequency). Like any wireless device there runs risk of interference with other devices. when I do get a signal, if the cordless phone downstairs rings, I get disconnected. -.- so I'm assuming that its running somewhere in the 5 gigahertz range.

You are very confused here. There is NO wifi repeater that would work with Xohm, because Xohm operates on LICENSED spectrum (NOT 900, 2.4, 5.8). Xohm is not wifi, it is WiMax on licensed spectrum. Again, because Xohm operates on it's own LICENSED spectrum, there is no way you could get interference from ANY cordless phone or router, because they operate on UNLICENSED spectrum. Xohm operates in the 2.5 Ghz band. Your cordless phone does not operate in this spectrum, so it could not be causing disconnects.

drats666 : ha ha ha you want a picture of xohm connection? I'm less then 200 yards from the coverage area. The coverage area is literally on the other side of the street. my connection drops constantly. the modem will cycle through various stages, such as regist, ho_rang, ranging, dl_sync. alot of times when it says "operational" it will either disconnect like 3 seconds later or will have either no ip listed or a ip address of 0.0.0.0 which both cases as unuseable.

I have the 80 dollar modem by ZyXEL - MAX-206M2. The firmware on it is rather poor. The problem with the ip being 0.0.0.0 is caused partly by the poor firmware. A simple way of remiding this would be to have a simple reset button on the web panel for the modem. The dhcp function is also rather poor. Example I hooked my xbox 360 and my laptop to the modem and it gave both devices the same internal ip which caused a network conflict. -.- I had to manual go in and change the ip address on my laptop just to connect because of that.

If you have a wireless router, don't put it anywhere near the modem. the signals will conflict and cause your modem to become more unstable then it is naturally. I reached speeds up to 3 megabytes download and 1.2 megbyte upload a second. But on average i get only 300kb download and 75kb upload per second. not to mention its difficult to establish or maintain a connection.

The modem itself also has some design flaws with it. Example would be it only houses 2 ethernet ports that operate at 10/100mbps. This is fine for the most part however can mess with your network if you have things set up a certain way. My router bases its speed on the speed of the incoming connection so when i hooked up the 10/100 port it set my network to run within 10/100 mbps instead of the gigabyit it used before. -.-

The modem can overheat. the heat mainly generates at the base of the modem so I wouldn't advise keeping this on for 24/7. I made a custom cooling pad using 1 80mm fan to help it. If you plan on using this as a replacement for your current service I'd think again. for roughly 10 dollars more I could get 15 meg download and 5 meg upload from broadstreak but the owners of the house refuse to let the installation guy in -.- .

The modems have a larger coverage area then the useb and card adapters. Also theres rumors going around about different businesses offering wimax service .> I'm a network major and I know that no wireless company would exclude 30 miles from their coverage map if it can get a connection. He also tried to tell me that it gigabit connections on the modem. Fortunately I did my research before I even went to the kiosk so I knew he was full of it.

The wimax signals have difficulties going through mamy different types of materials, that is why signals inside are weaker then outside. Also the phone support is lacking as mentioned above. They cannot give you your pin id even if you verified yourself already. several of the techs will say you cannot make a payment over the phone and if you argue with them over it they will put you on hold for about 5 minutes, get their supervisors and find they are wrong. . I talked to roughly 10 tech people of which 6 told me I cannot make a payment over the phone.

local kiosk sale reps get emails about when products will be releashed however according to tech and the kiosk people they don't know a estimated date. they basically just get a email saying hey look out for this product sometime soon.
