I need to extend from the smartjack about 400 feet with a utp cat5e what is the maximum distance approved with out having problems

At that distance, I would have the telco relocate the SmartJack to avoid any issues. Anything over 100ft would concern me about having future issues, without knowing specific specs of the card(s) inside it.

definately agree with buggy, i've got a store with a Smart Jack that's well over 200' away and they have nothing but issues, ATT can't relocate any closer, it's a nightmare when it goes down

You can extend the DS1 side to about 1200 feet by using the Line BuildOut (LBO) settings on the sjack.

FWIW the default LBO on most sjacks is 0-330 feet and I think the next setting is out to 450 feet.
