EZNETLA - Motorola Wisp - Problems...hardcore.

So, I'm at my last strand with my current wisp. I've been researching the net and only found one other person (who posted here named Ksan01. If you still check this could you contact me by message?) using their services that's experiencing what I'm experiencing. We've had services with them for little over a year. It started out pretty much like Ksan01's post. Internet was extremely pleasing for being wireless. Worked great with no real problems, then after a year or so connection speeds were becoming terrible and latency really high. As of the last month or so, it's gotten worse. Connection randomly dropping often no matter if we're active online or not. Speeds will often drag close to dialup speeds or test up to about 200kbps.

We try and call the owner himself but apparently his favorite lines seem to be along the lines of "There's nothing wrong on our end. It shows you're connected." Any other ISP would assume that if their customer's not getting internet access then there is a problem SOME WHERE that needs to be addressed. This is especially the case you've been calling in multiple times and you're being told to reset try resetting the router.

We called yesterday afternoon since sometime after the previous night we were pretty much down for quite some time. We were told that they were replacing a radio antenna so the net would be going up and down. It stayed down the entire night, but we still had the ISPs network information on our router or computer (I'm pretty tech savvy, especially with networking). So all day today, we've been pretty much down until around 6 or may 7pm or so (did some house work to kill time) and now its doing the exact same thing. Goes up and then down shortly afterwards. Speeds are pretty low when I can squeeze a test out.

I'm wondering if any of you guys on these forums use EZNETLA in the rural Louisiana areas and if you're having any issues similar? I know one other person who's had services with him and he's pretty much confirmed with me what I'm saying today. Ksan01 seem to have lucked out though and at least got equipment replaced since there really was a problem.

From what I've been told, it seems that there will be a service charge to have someone come out to troubleshoot our issue.

Question to you WISP providers or professionals: What should I do as the consumer when it comes to issues like this? We're being charged anywhere between 50-60 a month for this service that most ISPs are charging only 20 a month for. Even with dialup, though its slower, at least it works when I need it to. I'm fearing that he may be overselling his bandwidth hardcore and possibly intentionally. Do I have any real consumer protection against this? I can't think of any real reason why and ISP, large or small, would not want to provide real technical support when a customer is having issues.

Thanks in advance

Is that your wisp?

What the heck is a "mechanical firewall"?

Anyway.....

Sounds like a serious issue, and they shouldn't charge you unless they are 100% sure its not them.

Ya AMD Phreak,

Thats my isp. I definately agree with you as far as the charge on the service call is concerned. Believe me when I tell you, the owner seems consistant with preventing anyone from having to come out here. It seems that as far as he's concerned, as long as the radios are communicating with the tower, then all is well. If I was only interested in an intranet...

If its that bad, heres your answer form his site
"If you decide you no longer need Broadband you call us, we come and retrieve our radio, and antenna, and you are no longer obligated, we stop debiting your account and put your radio up at someone else's home.
"

Look at it this way, say Im a crack dealer, and youre a crackhead. Im taking my crack and replacing it with rock salt with a little crack powder on it. If you keep coming back to me, buying more crack powder coated rock salt. you know its rock salt, even though im telling you its grade A crack. If you keep coming over and buying it, then who really is in the wrong?

The people who say, well this provider is the only game in town are usually wrong. There are satellite options available, you have the option to pay the telcos to bring you service at a huge price (and the will) and there is always dial up. Like you said, dial up is reliable.

Now as far as charging for a service call. I cannot stand companys who do that if its their equipment that has the problem, assuming the customer has followed all the guidelines. If its standard maintenance of their own equipment, that should be free. Now if they get there, and you have tweaked some setting which caused your problems because youre "tech savvy" then by all means you should spring for the $200 service charge to teach you not to meddle.

Come to illinois, we dont charge for service calls
