| BBU battery dead
Yesterday my BBU started beeping, and the "replace battery" indicator light was red. It was installed almost exactly two years ago. Does this seem like a normal lifetime for the battery? Two years seems pretty short to me, and it's not like my house experiences frequent power outages. Most of my APC UPS units are much older and have not required new batteries, although I got one dud that lasted less than two years.
Do I need to get a VZ tech to come out to replace the battery? Will there be a truck roll charge? If so, I'm going to try to get the tech to replace my 611 ONT with a newer one, and also swap my TiVo HD's S-Cards for an M-Card. May as well get as much mileage as possible for that $80. |

| reply to PoloDude Wow, thanks for the responses all. One thing that's clear is that VZ's anointed battery supplier (Waca) is especially expensive. Shocked, I tell ya.
PoloDude, the battery you linked to is pretty cheap. Do you know if the terminals are the right size? Batteries Plus sells a 12V 7.5 Ah BBU battery replacement with ".187" terminals for $33 not including S&H. I don't know what units are associated with that number, so I can't compare to the one you mentioned from Battery Mart. |

@mustangtampa.com | How do you silence the battery alarm permanently. You only need the battery backup if you have a verizon phone. |

You only need the battery backup if you have a verizon phone. excuse me if im wrong, pretty sure about this but you need the battery for FIOS during a power outage. If not, your ONT will not get power and you will lose anything that works off your FIOS service. As long as your phone service does not require FIOS, your fine. |

| All the backup battery does is provide about 15 minutes of phone service in the event of a power outage. It does not keep the ONT online for internet/TV functionality. -- So put me on a highway, and show me a sign. And take it to the limit one more time... |

The BBU keeps the dailtone up for up to 8hrs. once the battery gets to a low charge it then shuts off. it saves a reserve charge. IF you press the "Battery emergency use" button it will fire back up for up to about an hour. THe BBU does keep the data/vid service on for about 15mns. Other members here have tested this. -- I'm not as good as I once was but I'm as good once as i ever was. |

@qwest.net | reply to RSM Just open up the case, disconnect the battery and reconnect. It will shut up for another year or so. |

The only way to silence the battery is to hit the "Alarm Silence" button. The other way would be to crack the case and disable it. I highly reccomend against doing that. The battery will keep the data up for a short time on power failure. If you plug the router into a BBU along with your PC or if you have a laptop you will not loose service during a short power looses -- I'm not as good as I once was but I'm as good once as i ever was. |
