[Need Info] Nero 9 vs Nero 8

Can someone clearly breakdown the differences between Nero 8 Ultra and Nero 9 Ultra?
It just seems not too long ago that I got Nero 8 Ultra and without even a version 8.5 they jump right to 9!
Plus, the upgrade path is quite unfair and extremely pricey.

Does Nero 8 lack anything that Nero 9 has?
Thanks!

Personally, I do not care what "improvements" they have made in Nero 9. I will NEVER upgrade, will NEVER purchase Nero again.

I have had problems with Nero 8 since I installed it. For example, the first time I try to add files to a compilation for burning, I get a useful message saying that "the other program is busy." I have to wait a minute or two until Nero finishes futzing with all my hard drives, then click "retry." They have never managed to fix this, even after I sent them all the information they requested.

Then there are settings which have to be selected every time, like "No pause between tracks" on audio CDs. You should be able to set something like this as a default in the options.

I've also found that Nero NEVER uses the maximum speed on either of my CD/DVD drives, whereas the free burners I use do.

Then there's the trivial but annoying non-operation of the keyboard copy and paste for title and artist. You have to use the context menu.

I would possibly consider paying $5 for an upgrade, but I doubt it would be worth it.

I wouldn't bother, I tried Nero 8 and it was pants. I'm on 7.7.5.1 Lite »updatepack.nl/category/nero-lite/

You still need your serial number, the people at Nero Lite just remove a lot of the bloat that comes with nero. It's actually quite good then.

The lite version is a bit like XP and the full version like Vista. e.g the lite version is functional, fast with little bloat wheras the full version is slow, bloated and full of cr*p that's added specifically for people who want eye candy.

I also agree with barryindy, the upgrade path is far to expensive. Nero shou;d separate the Burning rom part of Nero and sell that standalone.... lets face it 99% of people only ever use that! I'd actually pay more for them to remove the bloat!

Hey thanks for the info on Nero Lite!
I had heard about it before but wasn't too sure about installing a hacked up version of Nero.

Looks interesting!

Yeah it's not hacked... you have to use your valid Nero serial. They just remove all the bloat

8 came out a year ago, it's not that crazy of an upgrade schedule.

I'm not saying that 8 or 9 are good, just that their upgrade schedule isn't that weird.

I paid for Nero 8 on Aug 29 of 08. Now they have 9. When I contacted Nero (Sept. 15th about only had Nero for 2 weeks) about an upgrade they said there was no free update but could give me 50% of the purchase price. I WILL NEVER BUY A NERO PRODUCT AGAIN!!

I have the same question with respect to Nero 9 vs Nero 8. With all due respect, I'm a little disappointed that not even one poster even attempted to answer the OP question so I guess I’ll go off and try and find my own answers.

quote:
The German software manufacturer has unveiled its new flagship software package, Nero 9, a one-stop portal that integrates pretty much every area of multimedia creation for the home consumer. In the past, the Nero brand has been associated with CD and DVD burning — and not much else. The Nero 9 suite has a number of new features that add to its core premise of media creation.

Upside

The Nero StartSmart centre has been totally overhauled, including a new, easier to use interface. Essentially, StartSmart is a central launch pad for all the other applications, including burning, video, photo, conversion and backup functions.
For budding Spielbergs, the Movie Wizard function now has extra templates based around common events such as weddings, birthdays and holidays, plus there's the special AdSpotter functionality that lets you skip ads in pre-recorded TV shows and movies. There is also now support for AVHCD, as well as a conversion filter that takes standard-definition video and enhances the picture quality to make it look like high-definition video.
Additional functionality is available for Vista users, including enhanced TV integration thanks to the Nero Live Gadget which displays broadcasts in the Vista sidebar.

Downside

Nero 9 is only available for Windows — there are no current plans for a Mac version. At the launch of Nero 9, the company also unveiled another package called MoveIt, which lets users easily transfer digital content in different formats between a computer and portable devices through a simple interface. At this stage, it seems that the two packages will be sold separately rather than bundled together.
Also be prepared to shell out extra for the backup functionality in Nero 9; it's priced in, 5, 15 and 25GB increments for either three or 12 months of service. If you do take up the offer, make sure to read the terms and conditions.

Outlook
Now up to its ninth release, the Nero multimedia package has built a loyal following amongst home users wanting an integrated solution to their ripping and burning needs. Nero 9 builds on the functionality of earlier versions and adds a couple of extra features that may tempt new users to pick up the software, but there's limited room to move once you've mastered the basics.
Nero 9 is available in a retail box set or as a download from nero.com for AU$99.95.

This isn’t nearly enough info IMO so I’ll keep looking.

Since I have about 4 Vista Home Premium licenses and about 3 Media Center Edition 2005 licenses I am interested in some of the multimedia features. I also have a Blu-Ray burner and an Hauppauge HD PVR and am always looking for better software.

I actually won my license of Nero 7 Ultra Edition Enhanced along with some hardware. I later upgraded to Nero 8 Ultra Edition when I came across an upgrade offer at Frys for ~$20 after rebate. I also bought the Blu-Ray / HD DVD upgrade for Nero for a nominal fee. Naturally I wont likely upgrade to Nero 9 unless I see a deal that makes the price of upgrade small to negligible.

But first things first, I need to know what version 9 offers over 8.
