Answer is no.. you must add a line to a plan that is set up for multiple lines, or add your own plan with your own line.

they offer 'add a line' for 9.99, but UPGRADING TO A FAMILY PLAN costs 30bucks more in itself, so the 9.99 is mute, and is in fact 30bucks, i was questioning anyway to just add the 9.99 without having to pay the 30!

That being said, calling them today they gave us a cheaper family plan that isn't listed online, and is in fact only 10bucks more than her old one

If you want a single plan, then enter into a lower priced contract yourself, separate from the gf. If you feel that you need to be together on a plan, then have her upgrade to a family plan which includes two lines for the minutes/prices listed on att.com. That's pretty simple. Unfortunately, there's nothing inexpensive about plans with ATT & Verizon since they generally provide very good service hence the premium over pre-paid.
