| TDS Question
ok everybody I have a question I'm sure you guys know more about this then I do
ok I was having problems with my download speed and had a tech come out and look at it I had just upgraded to a 3 MB line well I was only getting 768k speeds so he gave me CAT 5 cable and told me to run it from the box out side right to the DSL box did that! speed decreased? so he left to go over to the NODE? what ever that is switched something and my speed doubled 1.5 download this node thingy is half a mile away right behind the outlet mall he said that wasnt good enough and left again he said now you have your own _____ and the word node came up again then he checked my speed it was 3424 Kbps and still is has been ever since then then he told me I was downloading faster then the mall
from what I understand a 3MB line is as fast as they will get here for at least a few more years
now my gateway says my speed is 3424Kbps but speed test after speed test shows Im under 3000Kbps
so heres the question is there ANYTHING I can do to increase the speed to reach the 3424Kbps or higher ?
thanks for reading Jake |

| My guess is no -- I suspect your line has been tested to be capable of more so it's not going to be the weak link, but you're not going to exceed the cap of the plan that is available in your area (and there is protocol overhead that has to be taken into account.)
Do you need the speed for a single data stream? If you could settle for downloading multiple things or chunks at once, you could signup for another line and a second 3 mbps plan and use a load balancing router to spread the load among connections. -- Very happy TDS DSL user | Wildblue in Lake Michigan |

| reply to lord4play7 Thank you for the information is there a load balancing router that you would suggest?
I think the main problem with the speed is my roommate her computer is a P.O.S. its an emachine and she downloads anything and everything she can as far as games go I dont know how many times I had to remove virii from her computer she has had to format it 3 times this year so far and she leaves it on all the time when I shut it off in the night my internet seems to run better faster I played around with the QoS and put her at 30% hopefully it helps all she does is play games all day
thanks for the info Jake |
