Trend Micro Internet Security is offered free

My ISP is now offering a free copy of Trend Micro Internet Security suite. I've read reviews good and bad for this product.

Presently, on my XP Pro SP2 PC, I'm using Firefox 3 with a secure router. I have Avast anti-virus, Malwarebytes anti-malware, SpywareBlaster, Ad-Aware 2007, Windows Defender and Windows firewall.

Knowing about using multiple anti-virus concerns, would Trend Micro Internet Security offer any advantage over my present products?

Can I pick and choose which 'items' of Trend Micro Internet Security I install - i.e. maybe install all but the anti-virus feature? Then I could have multiple anti-malware, anti-spyware, etc in addition to what I already have - would these cause any conflicts?

Thanks
Robert

I gave up on Trend Micro last year.

Resource usage crept up, their anti-spyware was sluggish and the av potion detection rate was lower then other products including free ones.

Trend added an advertisement panel in 2007 that rolled out from the right side offering more of their paid services each time the program was opened. At that time this panel could not be disabled.

I switched to Avast AV (Avira is very good I just did not care for the layout and high amount of false positives-YMMV) and Comodo Firewall Pro for outbound connection monitoring.

Trend Micro is how shall I put this, rather sucky.
Your current setup is ok (and definitely better than Trend Micro), the only things I would say differently is Comodo rather than the Windows Firewall.
(I also use Avira over Avast as I did not like certain lack of options in Avast (mainly the lack of being able to do an unattended scan))

I recommended them for years until the last 9 months or so. Like Grail Knight See Profile mentioned, I have seen resource usage also creep up, and really and unexcusable low detection rate. There was just some odd behavior overall (TMIS 2007, 2008) that I didn't like seeing.

I suggested to people I knew that they switch from TM to Avira, or Eset. Some people went with Avira Free, and love it.

At this point, I'm avoiding anything from TM except HiJackThis.

Okay. Thanks for the input re. my ISP's free offer of Trend Micro Internet Security. Guess I'll pass on their offer.

I would. Although, tough to pass up free. Personally, Avira had much better detection.

I just missed it - it's expired now - but »www.slickdeals.net had ESET NOD32 Antivirus Home Edition v3.0 for $15. Second time in two weeks or so that I've seen that.
