| Need a keyboard
Sunday I was playing and dumped my coffee on my G15, the original, I'm working on an old IBM 101 keyboard and really miss my macro buttons. I'm not too keen on the new six button G15 and am looking for suggestions on another keyboard that has macro keys. -- When will the people realize that with DRM they aren't purchasing anything? |

| When I heard they were discontinuing the G15 I bought a backup for just such an emergency but going forward you could try this.

I have frends that use it and are very happy with it. It makes changing the key group easier through a thumb switch.
Good luck I don't know what I would do.

| reply to Kilroy Short term solution was to purchase a G11 from Amazon. I'll lose the screen, but maintain the 18 macro keys. That I can live with, but it has been killing me to mount and dismount and combat is more work.
I'm letting the G15 dry and drain and hopefully will be able to use that and use the G11 as a back up.
I was trying to get into a group for the Sky Guard escort and hit my coffee before I could whisper and they started without out me, it was a very painful morning. -- When will the people realize that with DRM they aren't purchasing anything? |

| reply to Kilroy Aside from the coffee bath, how durable are these boards?
I would be interested in having one of these for a lot of reasons... but I will be the first to admit I am a bit of a klutz and have been known to spill a few drops here and there.
My Microsoft board seems to hold up very well to this light abuse, but would a more sophisticated board do the same? -- Making procrastination an art form since Pluto was still a planet. |

When us hunters were having that problem with kill command sticking I had just got a group for Slabs back in the day. Walked in and my kill command stuck. I said, 'I'll brb, have to fix my spell'. Had mine for about 15 months and it's still as solid as ever. Never had a problem and I have spilled a few things on it. Not quite a bath scenario, but half a cup of coffee made some keys sticky until I could be bothered to clean them out. |

I've had it pretty much since they came out, over three years.
I'm a heavy gamer so it sees a lot of use, not so much abuse though on occasion it happens. -- When will the people realize that with DRM they aren't purchasing anything? |

Er...I think this works on "dummy" (ie. regular) keyboards, where there isn't so much circuitry on board. This is a gaming keyboard, so it has quite the lot of electronics on board.
I'd think fully submerging it in liquid would be a death sentence for such a thing. |

| reply to Kilroy How useful are these boards? I mean, I use keybindings/macros in the Blizzard UI, and I just can't see what another few keys all around the board would net me.
(edit) I mean, I know why I use my gaming mouse. Switching sentivities & multiple buttons that're easy-to-reach are damn handy. |

| reply to AquaBlaze nope...we put our circuit cards through a water wash prior to coating... couldn't hurt anyway... if its broken now, can't make it any more broken if he ain't gonna use it. |

| reply to Kilroy You just have to make sure that it's completely dry before using it, and don't use any soap or detergent.
For those wondering why the people who get them like them so much - you can keybind a lot of things besides hotbar buttons. Plus, if you have a macro set up to do something different when alt is held, you can set the keyboard macro to that, so you still have 1 button casting. -- When the ship lifts, all bills are paid. For me it's because of the 18 macro function keys I can use with my left hand. So I can move my toon with my mouse (right hand) and hit macros for whatever without needing to be all that clever or dexterous. |

Keys 1-6, R, T, F, G, C, V as well as the shift-versions of these And my mouse keys for more keybinds
I already have command of all of my toon with my left hand, with a few commands on my mouse buttons/movements. (ie. Mouse 4/5, shift + mousewheel up/down, etc.)
The macro keys on the gaming keyboards seem very removed from the actual keyboard. I'd think trying to side-straddle to them while using my movement keys would tear my fingers apart. |

| reply to AquaBlaze said by AquaBlaze :How useful are these boards? Once you get used to them, very useful. I don't use all 18 keys, but I do use a good few. I have one set as a hot key for fishing or bombing. I have one to bring up my character sheet and open all of my bags. Once to use my first mount (Flight), one for a second mount (Horse), and one for a third mount (Blink or Aspect of the Pack). For my Rogue my first mount is set to Stealth. Then I have three set for quick attacks, normally things that stop spell casters or instant casts like Ice Lance. I have one set to Disenchant or Prospect. I have three to set pet aggression levels. And one to eat and drink.
The one I've been missing the most is the mount/dismount. -- When will the people realize that with DRM they aren't purchasing anything? |

I have a single macro to do that for me. It pulls out my epic flyer (when avaliable), or my epic land mount. I basically have made my "`" key my all-purpose "mount" key. |
