Dir-655 v1.21

updated firmware, installed software, and the software doesn't even recognize my router, so I don't get a ip at the top of the software, and no usb items plugged into router get recongnized, is there something I should have turned on or I feel i'm missing something, thanks if you can help.

I think the poster is talking about the beta software that's on the d-link ftp that you install on your desktop to recognize devices plugged into the usb port on the back. I forgot the name but maybe someone can fill me in. Also if I am not mistaken the 1.21 firmware resets the ip address of the dir-655 to 192.168.0.1 unless that's been corrected but that's what happened to me last time freaked me out as well,

I went to 1.11 to 1.21 on my 655 A2 ... yep it set the IP back to 192.168.0.1 . No big deal... just changed mine to 192.168.1.1 and uploaded my previously saved config file and away it went.

Just had to disabled the "Securespot" service.

Re: Dir-655 v1.21 IP question

Hello - I just checked my 655 and noticed my IP is 192.168.0.1. Should I change it to 192.168.1.1? Is there an advantage to this or do you use 192.168.1.1 for a specific reason?
Thanks,
Tom

192.168.0.1 is D-Links default IP address for all their routers, Linksys uses 192.168.1.1. There is no advantage to be gained by changing the default address.

Re: Dir-655 v1.21

There are definitely issues with ver 1.2 & 1.21 versions of the DIR-655 firmware.

The Virtual Servers mapping does not work properly for outgoing packets. I run a mail server that started functioning intermittently on these two firmware revs. Reverting to 1.11 solved the problem. Connections to port 25 (smtp) would route to the appropriate internal server on my network but it seems the servers resp was not always getting back to the distant connecting server. this leaves the smtp routines waiting for additional communication that never comes and times out. Sometimes the transmitting server will give up and mail is lost.

Also, schedules can’t be configured properly.. the firmware incorrectly flags times as invalid ie: 11pm to 5am is invalid in 1.2x and ok in 1.11.

Yet another shining example of D-Links failure to adequately test new firmware before releasing it to the public!

They released version 1.00 of the SharePort utility on October 22. Has anyone tried it yet?

I just received a response from D-Link on the scheduling bug and they are aware of the issue and say they are working on fixing it. Testing all the firmware features before making it available for download would be nice for a change!
