| reply to kracksmith time and date is correct where do I see the error code you mentioned?
It just says "Failed Updates" then it says "Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing udpates from being downloaded or installed"
i tried flashing the bios from 1.24 to 1.26 and samething.
under c:\windows\windowsupdate.log it says
"warning: WU client failed installing updates with error 0x80070057"
what does this mean?? |

| The error 0x80070057 is "ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER" and can have various causes.
Were there any other error codes in the log?
Is Windows Vista installed on these computers? If so, you could try running the "System Update Readiness Tool" and see if it can fix anything:

Another error code I forgot to type is:

| reply to kracksmith Hi and thanks
I tried the scenario 1 fix for the 32bit but still fails.
This is so odd. I purchased tons of new computer before and never ever came across this problem. These are new computer and I shouldn't have to go through this.
Should I just reinstall XP? |

| Try re-registering the following files:
Start > Run > cmd > OK
Then, at the command prompt, type the following, pressing "Enter" after each command:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll regsvr32 wuaueng.dll regsvr32 wucltui.dll regsvr32 wups2.dll regsvr32 wups.dll regsvr32 wuweb.dll
Restart the computer afterwards.
If the problem persists try a reinstall of the Windows Update Agent:
»support.microsoft.com/kb/949104/
If necessary, you can "force" a reinstall of the 32-bit Windows Update Agent by running the following command:
C:\[locationoffile]\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe /wuforce
I would suggest a "repair" or "reinstall" of XP, to fix a problem with Windows Update, only as a last resort. |

| reply to kracksmith I tried all those regsvr32 and still I can't get updates custom updates.
My machines are core2duo.
oh let me add something, reinstalled XP with the restore plus disc and still i can't do custom updates. I then went into add/remove and removed all the junk HP gives and still i can't do custom updates.
What is the hold up with this machine?? I'm so fed up.
As for the update agent, i really don't think it will work.
i called HP yesterday and tier 3 can't even help me. they asked me to call Microsoft. I called Microsoft and they said they can't help me neither cuz it's a OEM and HP is responsible.
I am wasting so much time with this necessary problem I never encounter before ever! |

| reply to kracksmith We can't install SP3 because of our ERD application. It won't work.
I just tried to do a custom Microsoft critical update so this log is just 5 minutes old:

»[XP Home] Error installing updates from WU site
There could be one or more problematic updates which are affecting the other updates.
I would also suggest to consider reinstalling the Windows Update Agent just to ensure all files related to Windows Update are properly installed and registered. |

| reply to kracksmith Ok here is a update.
I reinstalled the update agent you mentioned and it didn't help.
When unchecking a few updates it didn't work neither.
What did work was installing them few at a time like what you mentioned. I had 102 critical updates to do on 6 machines. I had to do it 14 at a time. It took all day yesterday just baby sitting it.
This problem shouldn't exist. I wonder if Microsoft knows about this? and hopefully they get it fixed before the next time I order more computers.
Thanks for all your help! |
