h.264 on ps3

Found this online, you can re-head an x264 file and play it on ps3 with no quality loss. The time to re-head a file is much less than a re-encode.

Download program
mkv2vob.rar

1. Extract to a directory (dont just run it from within winrar) and run mkv2vob.exe
2. Select the MKV file
3. Select where to save the VOB.
4. Several windows will open/close during the process, do not interrupt it or click anything in these windows.
5. Playback the vob file through tversity, burn to dvd-r, flash drive, etc...

Cheers

If you download pirated movies that the pirates encode into a MKV container, this program will rip the MPEG stream out of the container and place it into a container that the PS3 can play.

There are many free PS3 sample games to try.

Have you visited the PSN store?

Will the resulting file stream to the 360 as well?

I'd been dying to stream the 1080p polar special already.

You may be able to rename is to mpg and get it to play, but the 360 usually won't play MPG VOB formatted files.

I know what it is. I know it's not a game. I know I should have posted it in console tech. I also know that if you actually rolled on the floor and laughed your ass off at this you're a little slow.

Very recently (I've had my PS3 about a month), I configured it that I'm sharing, via TVersity, our photos/music from our storage device (Drobo) successfully to our 1080p TV, via HDMI.

Next, I'd like to begin adding movies to storage. In your directions to the tool you shared, you mention "the" VOB .. using my DVD backup tools, copying a (non-hd) movie onto hard drive, there are "many" VOB's. Is there some utility that converts many into one? Or, can the PS3 natively play such VOB's (in sequence)?

Or, should I need to convert the VOB's to some other format, what is the preferred vehicle for streaming movies with PS3? What format affords the highest visual/audio quality? Too, at some point, I'll want to stream 1080p content.

It's a sticky proposition.

I'm not sure to be honest. I just convert the file and save it to a portable HDD then walk it over to my ps3 and plug it into the usb port.

I've been downloading 720 and 1080 movies and converting with mkv2vob since i got the ps3. It works great however some movies have out of sync audio and i haven't figured out why yet.
