| Loss of connectivity early in the morning?
I've started to notice that my internet will be down and won't come back even after a reboot of the modem and router. This has happened a lot lately, and it seems to start at 2am-3am until about 7am. I have an Arris modem which also shows the telephone line's status. When this happens these lights are not on.
There are four lights on the modem when this happens- power, US, DS, and the activity light blinks oddly. When I lose sync during the day(doesn't happen as much anymore, but it still occasionally happens), it sort of does the same thing except the telephone lights will still be on. In the morning it seems like it totally craps out and can't be revived.
Any suggestions? |

| reply to italiansmoke You're not the only one experiencing this. I'm using my iPhone to respond because my connection is down right now. The modem status shows it's online, but I have no connectivity whatsoever. This only seems to happen in the very early morning, and various people I know with comcast in different regions are reporting this kind of downtime too. |

| reply to italiansmoke I've had a similar problem since I moved and transferred service at the beginning of September. I've called Comcast and they keep wanting to send techs, but there is no point because the techs replace the connectors on the cable and tell me it's fixed. Then the connection goes down in the evening like usual.
I escalated my call yesterday to a supervisor, who promised to have the local dispatch call me and set up an appointment after hours so the tech can be here when the problem is active, but instead they just scheduled a tech to come between 1 and 4pm and had no idea of what was supposed to happen. They didn't offer to set up an after hours tech visit.
I have posted to a thread started by a subscriber with a similar problem at the comcast.net community forums but there has been no response. I am largeprime at the bottom of the thread.

It's about the time that the problem starts up (7:30 pm) and my connection is deteriorating. Websites take a long a time to respond, and sometimes respond with a blank screen or just time out. |

| I've noticed much more hiccups and issues with my connection since they introduced the caps around Oct 2nd. My Xbox Live is acting screwy, and can't retain my MTU setting. When it does work, I can play a game for about an hour before I lose connections to the hosts.
Also my modem and router seem to throw hissy fits early in the morning, and even a reboot doesn't get them to work again.
When I wake up in the morning, they are working but the connection is drop-dead slow. Things do start working better again in the afternoon.
Honestly, i'm not paying them for downtimes as frequent as this. It's kind of absurd.
I would like to get to the bottom of this, but every time I've called for a tech they do send one to my house, but all they ever do is check the line in my basement, replace the splitter, and then they run some numbers on my computer. That's about it. They do this every time, and never really get the bottom of it. The connection usually craps out once they leave, or eventually. |

| reply to italiansmoke what I would honestly do in the first place: NEVER use that modem that controls the phone/internet for my Internet connection. I would get another modem like I have a SB5120 for my internet and leave that for my phone.. But what do I know I still use AT&T landline.. Never had a problem. |

I have the ARRIS for CDV and my owned Motorola SB5100 for HSI. The ARRIS, here, cannot/will not allow PowerBoost on the upstream.
OP, can you post signals for us? Thanks! Also, when it craps out, try to remember to snag(save to notepad if needed) the signal levels when it comes back up.
Plus, the Motorola is a more forgiving HSI modem - signals can be out of spec and it will still work fine! -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

| reply to italiansmoke I'm having the same problem between about 8pm and 9am... this is really dumb, at midnight the internet will completely go out and only the power light on the modem will remain lit up, this only started a few days ago and I heard it has something to do with comcast attempting to regulate torrents but instead is just obliterating the internet but I'm not sure what it is. |

[off topic] Boy you are getting ripped off. and I think your confused with your speeds. I agree. I used to have 6mbps, but moved and transferred my service, which stayed at the same price, but lost 2mbps. This is according to the contract, not just tested speeds. I didn't know it had happened until a technician pointed it out.
Back on topic:
I'm still having the problems. One night it seemed to stay up all night, but lately, it's been going out earlier in the day. According to Comcast, there is scheduled Fall maintenance lasting 8-15 minutes for a week in the Fall, but these outages are hours long and I've gotten the same message twice, a week apart.
I'm going to go buy my own modem and see if that helps. I keep seeing T3 ranging errors on the current modem, though Comcast swears it's not the modem that's causing problems. |

| A T3 or two every so often is not a cause for concern, but, if you are getting a lot of T3 timeouts, that could well indicate a problem with your connection (perhaps noise on the line, but it's hard to tell without being there).
A few months ago, a tech came out here and replaced a cable plus some other things, and I can now operate for weeks without seeing even one T3 in my modem logs.
What are the modem's signal levels (downstream power, downstream signal/noise ratio and upstream power)? |
