[TWC] TWC SoCal, former Adelphia territory Slowness

After spending 15 minutes with the first line tech support, I was told that there's a scheduled maintenance in my region. The download speed slowness is so bad that I cannot even do a speed test, so for all intent and purpose, my current connection is below 56k. It's currently stucked at 31.4kB of download of a 300kB download part of the test.

The outage window is expected to be over in 2 hours, or as far as I can tell, after the technician's shift is over.

Same here all afternoon Monday in WLA (formerly Adelphia). Sucky through VPN just as bad without. I won't be wasting my time with tech support since I all ready reset my modem and cleared my cookies!

I also noticed that some sites are better than others, so the problem isn't necessarily very local to me, either.

I'm on the van nuys circuit. Packet loss started after 4pm. I called it into to TW at 4:35pm. Must have been one of the first to report it because they didnt have a known issue on their screen then. If you call now they have the standard "we are currently experiencing an outage in your area" message, so they have it in work now. Routing hardware failed somewhere, I guess. I don't know why for all the money I send them every month TW can't build sufficient redundancy into the network upstream of me so that this doesn't happen.

Just got off the phone with twc tech support. Supposedly one of their fiber lines in the LA area was cut and they gave me a 5-6 hour ETA for completion.........

Yup - dog slow in Sherman Oaks, CA. Many sites won't even resolve. Aren't they supposed to send out an email when they are going to do maintenance? I don't really mind as long as I know about it ahead of time. Glad I found this thread.

Graph from random Palmdale modem monitor
Looks like something changed 4+ hours ago. Not sure what though.

From my neck of the woods, some speedtests show normal Turbo PowerBoost speeds, while other tests show lower than Standard tier.

P.S. To those wondering, network maintenance is normally done during "low usage" hours from 1-4 am. Something like this probably isn't maintenance related and no they don't usually send out emails about planned maintenance, it seems to generate more calls to the call center than no email message being sent.

Just spoke with a RoadRunner specialist after navigating their really frakked up IVR (takes 3 minutes to navigate to speak to a live human). They confirmed that there is a fiber cut in Los Angeles and it is affecting all users in the Southern California area. It will cause issues with Time Warner VOIP people as well as web browsing. Their backup systems are working and their technicians are working on it.

Normal performance now so probably means we're up and running on backup. So my question I guess becomes why isn't failover automatic.

ok, it's gotten a bit better. Not great, but better. At least I can use some of my normal service.

It's weird i seem to be getting 1.4mbps download/480 upload on speedtest.net, but some sites are really slow and/or intermittent. Trying to log onto the steam, with no luck.

I just spent 1,784 seconds on phone with TWC (that could have been spent in bed, given that I was up all night last night) and the fiber cut was confirmed, the guy that I talked to said that is especially effecting people in Tustin and Costa Mesa, as well as a couple of other cities. (Must be since I called my local #).

Note to self: Call tomorrow for credit. Again.

I think they got their primary trunk back online. However, since they have so many of their circuit running towards their 'redundancy' circuit, it'll take a couple of hours for the route poison to work their magic and restore the proper route for their internal networks.

The ones where you're having no problem is the routes that have been restore. There are ones where slowness persist are the one that the route poison haven't reach yet.
