Re: New Wave = Worst cable ISP I have ever dealt with.

Please keep us updated as New Wave is rolling out cable internet in our market and I'm looking hard at them. Do they offer the "gaming" package in Taylorville? (»www.newwavecom.com/gamer.html) I wonder what they really do to make that faster and if you run into the same bottlenecks you would with standard service.

Here's my current speedtest with Frontier, hopefully either the OP or someone in Taylorville could post some results for comparison. The ping times are normally good, and I haven't seen much slow down at peak times in at least a year or more. I think we have a great backbone connection in town here, but that's all moot if they go with a 5GB/month cap as they are threatening to. (I've been at about 100GB for the last 3 months, which in my book is reasonable usage for the $90 I give them a month). But who knows, maybe New Wave will get a cap eventually. Any talk about that or any "tiered" plans from New Wave?

Thanks for all the Data, and this post in general. I was looking hard at NewWave since they are my only other option besides WindStream... I was wanting more speed, less latency.. But apparently NewWave is not the way to go either.

(There was a person I know who had NewWave and had been complaining, but I took it as a grain of salt..) looks like the truth is the truth...

You lost me. At the end of his posts things actually got pretty good. I wish someone from Taylorville would visit again and give us updates. I'm supposed to finally get 6mbps down/1mpbs up from Frontier DSL, but my price is going up significantly. I'm hoping NewWave is a viable alternative. I still don't think 6mbps will get me HD streaming from Netflix.

Hey, replies to my thread, yay!

Sorry I've been absent, but it's only because I haven't had much to complain about

Ping times do still go up in the evening a bit, but it is nothing like it used to be, and the service is still very useable at all hours.

Someone asked about the gamer package... I've seen it on their site and submitted a request, but never heard back. I'm still unhappy with NewWave's service, so I really can not justify giving them MORE of my money. From what I understand, all it does is bump up the upload speed. While that would be nice, I'm not willing to fork over the extra cash for a sub-par service.

I'll post a shot of my ping statistics for tonight later this evening as well as a speed test

FWIW, NewWave doesn't have any caps right now (that I've ran in to at least)... here are a few months of my Down/Up data:
Nov: 73.5gb down, 36.7gb up
Dec: 67.8gb down, 24.9gb up
Jan: 93.3gb down, 35.3gb up
Feb: 66.8gb down, 32.6gb up

As you can see I'm not exactly a light user, but I've not had any problems with caps or anything like that.

Sorry I couldn't post last night, but here is a speed test and current ping stats for tonight.
These are now my typical week-night results. On the weekeends some times it's a little worse, but like I said before still very useable.

Well, all I can say is competition is great. Although I'm not sure at this point what the final price is going to be through Frontier:

I appreciate you checking back and posting. New Wave is just now rolling out internet in Carlinville but I think Frontier is going to be a viable competitor for them for the few of us that are hardcore users.

Frontier's uptime is going to be hard to beat. They've still got possibly the price and maybe caps working against them though.

By the way, my upload/download monthly usage is pretty close to yours. . .interesting.
