| [trouble] Dropped Connection
I'm a Verizon Online DSL customer using the Westell 327w modem/router they sent me back in the Spring. Within the past two months I've begun to have problems with signal loss, not sync loss but signal. After a few seconds the signal and connectivity return. As I said, this started about two months ago, until then I never had a problem. I tested an older DSL modem and had the same problem. Could this be in my phone line, they all seem to check out OK. Any other ideas on what this might be? |

| modem stats, like your margin, line attenuation, etc. It should look something like this using a Westell modem. You can get these stats by entering »192.168.1.1 into your web browser. |

| This is the closest I see to your example:
Gateway Status GO!Your Gateway is Ready for Internet Access
Broadband Connection
Internet Status: Connected DSL link: Connected Speed (Down/Up): 3360 Kbits/sec by 640 Kbits/sec |

| Your upstream sync isn't synced properly, so that's what's causing the issue, the margin suddenly bombing down and causing a disconnect. Since it sounds like you have a newer modem, go to System Monitoring, press Advanced Monitoring on the left nav, and then click Transceiver stats once past the prompt. Post up everything on that page. Do this on your old modem after syncing it up, but first try »192.168.1.1/transtat.htm and see if it brings up the Transceiver stats with that modem and not a 404 error. The newer modem would probably give better results if what you have is say a Westell 6100 and the older modem a Westell 2200. |

| Thanks for your help. That link did open the main router page, I did NOT get the 404 error. But let me run this by you and see if you think its the culprit. I have DirecTV and, as you know, the phone line connected to it requires a dsl filter. At the suggestion of a relative thats retired from the phone company, I went through the house disconnecting one dsl filter at a time and checking to see if my modem connection dropped and came back. Sure enough, when I got to one of my two satellite receivers and disconnected the line my modem connection went down and came back. I ran tweak then a speed tests and everything checked out fine. When I reconnected that line the speed dropped off again. So Ive replaced that filter and so far so good. What do you think? Could that be all it was?? |

| Start your own thread here and we can help you. We need your transceiver stats. But to answer your question, the phone line coming into the DirecTV receivers can be located on the back of the receiver. A filter should be attached somewhere on the receiver's cord. No need to go digging outside or behind walls , right on the back.
Otherwise Jerry, it sounds like you just had a filter go bad on you. It's not a problem, those things can die after a while. |

| reply to mrtictac All I did was put another dsl filter on that particular line. It's not the first filter I've had one go bad on me and I would NEVER suggest anyone give up DirecTV for cable!!! The more I've investigated the more I believe that the phone line going to that receiver is the problem, I'M SURE IT'S NOT THE RECEIVER!! |

| reply to JerryM Over the last few weeks I have been having connection problems with my verizon DSL. I am 19 years old, and I live at home with my family and we recently just moved to a new house. I ran my westell modem wireless at my old house, no problems, but here at the new house the connection is unsteady whether wireless or wired.
The main reason that this is a problem is because I am an avid online gamer. I play a lot of XBOX live, and when I'm playing I randomly disconnect. But while I am playing or using my laptop, my connection speed is fine. It reads as connected excellent on my laptop and connects just fine as far as speed goes. But this random disconnecting is something new to me and I need it to stop.
I called verizon tech support which didnt immediately solve any problems. They tried to help with the screen sharing, setup check, etc. I just want to know if there is a certain test I need to run and how I can make sure that my connection stops dropping like this. Is there a setting I need to use or something?
And I dont know if this helps at all.
This is when its working

This is what comes up when I'm disconnected.

| Well it certainly is a resyncing issue. I wouldn't know how to fix your issue as your margins look pretty nice considering your distance, and ADSL2+ is helping you. Do these disconnects happen at a particular time frame in a random secquence or are they just fully random?
However, since you do play games, you could benefit from FastPath. It'll cut your latency down to reduce some lag you might be seeing. Otherwise, visit the Verizon Direct forum at this site and let them know about your random disconnects, but also show them your line stats. Also, whenver you'd like (preferably when the problem is fixed), ask for FastPath. |
