| [W2K] Drive C:\ denied access
Anybody seen where a service pack or something will deny domain admin or local admin access to the root of C:\?
This is old Windows 200 server, not Pro.
It doesn't matter who tries, we can't get access to C:\. Other drive do allow access. Programs that are on C:\ do continue to run.
NO THERE IS NOT A VIRUS OR MALWARE causing this.
With that pulled off the table, suggestion. Nobody has go into the machine a removed file rights for the admin group etc. |

| reply to jdmatl What groups/users are denied access to c:?
If your admins are in ANY group that is denied access you will have this issue. Think groups like everyone, domain users.
good luck. -- Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he will feed himself for a lifetime |

1 edit | I am not sure if you intended to reply to me or not, if so I do not understand what you are saying. In win2k you can choose to allow or deny users/groups permissions. If you deny a group of with you are a member you will deny yourself access to that resource, no matter what other groups you are in. I am attaching a screenshot from one of our servers with the warning message that is displayed:

-- Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he will feed himself for a lifetime |

I have not heard of this happening, not saying that it cannot but I have yet to experience it. I can only think of two things that can cause this, the permissions were modified to block access, or you have corruption in the file system.
Thinking about it more I have seen something similar on a recovery partition that gateway uses. I was able to access the information using a linux live CD, but that is no help to you. -- Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he will feed himself for a lifetime |
