iPhone was originally going to be destined for Verizon....

then went to GSM ATT needless to say.

What's the latest and most concrete info. on whether the iPhone will be developed for different network carriers, if at all even?

If I had to guess, I doubt it will be developed for CDMA networks, at least not anytime in the next few years. Well into the future, I could see maybe a 'world' type device by Apple (similar to the iPhone), but domestically it would probably be Verizon -- who knows.
