Re: SLI installation help!!

said by Keizer:

First of all, the PC specs:
* MSI P6N SLI Platinum
* Intel dual core E6600 2.4 ghz
* Two gigs Corsair DDR2 800 memory
* Corsair 620 watt PS
* Creative sound card
* SATA Maxtor 7200 rpm hard drive
* 2 EVGA GTS 8800 graphics cards in SLI
* lite-on SATA DVD burner

This is my sons system, and I gave him my old 8800 GTS to run with his identical 8800 GTS in SLI. These are both the early G80 based cards. The only difference between the two is one has 320 MB on board memory, and the other 640.

I have the switch card set up in the SLI position. Both cards are installed with the SLI bridge. I have the latest Nvidia graphics drivers, as well as system drivers installed. Both cards have the power connected. Both cards show up in device manager. In Everest, it says under "Nvida SLI" SLI status: Supported but disabled.

If I type "rundll32.exe nvcpl.dll,LaunchMultiGpuApplet" into run and hit enter, I get a screen that says "Your graphics cards feature SLI technology, However, your mobo is not qualified to run in SLI mode".

Any idea what is going on here? My mobo is SLI capable. Could the difference in on board memory between the two cards be causing this? I have the card with the least amount of memory in the primary PCI express slot on top. I was told that these two cards would run fine in SLI even with different amounts of memory.

Help!! Thanks!
Interesting indeed. Is there a bios update for said motherboard? Is there a card/switch on the motherboard itself that you have to actuate to enable SLI mode? Latest nForce drivers? Have you tried re-installing drivers?

It should be working fine. However, as you have stated there is an issue somewhere.

After looking at your motherboard it does appear there is a SLI selector card that you have to physically flip to 'SLI' in order to use SLI. Have you done this?

Nevermind, i'm an idiot. You said you did this.

Interesting, i'm doing some reading right now and i'm seeing reports of the 640mb 8800GTS not being able to SLI up with a 320mb 8800GTS. It is indeed possible this may be true. Common sense tells us that it shouldn't - As nvidia has stated card with different memory amounts should be compatible with eachother. So it appears my original judgement may be wrong.

Alright.. Found your fix.

After furthing reading the results look grim. With the newer versions of drivers this 'fix' was rendered broken. It looks like you may not be able to do it. I apologize, I rendered my initial advice under advice from the official nvidia SLI FAQ which clearly states SLI'ing up two different sized memory cards should be possible.
