Do you pay your Bank Of America credit card online?

And if you do has anything changed?... because since Monday, Oct 6th, I have been able to log into my BOA account to pay my BOA Visa but when I click on "Pay Bill" it wants me to establish a checking account with routing number etc...but they already have that as I pay my bill online at their site each and every month but now suddenly they are asking me to establish a checking account with them in order to pay my credit card bill.

Also I noticed there is a section called "Mail"..I see in that a message from them thanking me for requesting e-bill....which I haven't ask to establish at all since I always receive my monthly statement at home and that is the way I want it...

I sent them off en email this evening asking what's up and while I await a reply I thought I would ask if anyone else is being asked to re-establish a checking account info with them in order to pay their BOA credit card bill?

There has been no activity on my credit card account except for myself and no pending charges.

What is strange is approx a year or so ago I never used my BOA Visa card and then suddenly BOA called me about some pending charges from over-seas which turned out to be some crooks attempting to register domain names using my card info...After I signed some affidavits BOA mailed me the charges were taken off and my credit card account was closed and a new card with different account numbers was put in its place..No trouble since then but now I'm wondering if ...........
they're back.

I don't know if this helps or not but this is the shortcut I use every month to log in and pay my credit card bill.

Is it possible you have more than one BOA online banking profile?

I am sure you have been using this one, th epoint is when you clicked on that email, what web did it bring you to?

The fundemental of phishing is that they send you email that looks very legit, reminding/warning you to update certain personal/financial info, whatever you type in will be exploited by them.

One thing to make sure, when facing those type of email, always call the banking/credit institute to verify, use the phone # from your statement not from the email.

I haven't received any email from them or a phishing one saying from BOA. And I never click on any link in emails as I always will go directly to the site..I have never accessed my BOA account any other way then the shortcut I posted.

I'll call them tomorrow AM if there is no reply to the email I sent this evening....
Thanks.

It does due to this was in my mail inbox at BOA's site. I never requested any e-bill service. Yet my account info is accurate, has no pending charges and my email address on record is accurate and has not been changed...Plus my site key is valid etc....I'll see what they say in their reply to my inquiry this evening.
__________

Subj: E-bill service for Bank of America Credit Card activated

Congratulations! Your request for e-bill service from Bank of America Credit Card, account ************, has been completed.

Your e-bill may be a duplicate of a paper bill you received from Bank of America Credit Card depending on when the paper bill was mailed. Before you pay your e-bill online, please compare the statement date and due date of your latest paper bill with the dates on your e-bill.

* If the dates are the same and you have already paid your paper bill, you should not pay the e-bill because it would result in a duplicate payment.

* If the dates are different or you have not yet paid your paper bill, you can pay your e-bill immediately by clicking the Pay button in the e-bill.

This message is for your information only. A response is not necessary.

Thank you for using our e-bill service.

A couple of things:

When I go to www.bankofamerica.com, it redirects to their secure page: h ttps://www.bankofamerica.com/index.jsp

Then once I log in and go through the sitekey crap it redirects to this server:

h ttps://onlineeast3.bankofamerica.com/cgi-bin/....
Then when I go to pay my cards it goes to this server:

h ttps://chpayment.mbnanetaccess.com/mbna/.....

I just logged on to check for you... all looks normal and I even went so far as to make a payment, but didn't confirm it. It showed my normal account in the drop down menu of accounts to pay from.

EDIT: I also get my statement mailed pysically and pay online every month.

Sometime in the past weekend or two BoA site was not functioning due to changes they were making. At that time you could not even get to any login page (it would error). But there was no announcement on home page and I had not logged in for so long I did not know what was up.

I normally pay my cc bills from the checking account end (no charge) at other banks, because when it was still MBNA they used to charge $15 to pay my business card (not for personal card) from their end (have not checked if BoA still does that).

It does seem strange that you were switched to electronic billing without your knowledge. Makes you wonder if your account was comprimised and someone is setting it up to make charges you wouldn't know about without a paper bill. Check contact info, keep an eye on it, and consider changing your password.

That's exactly what I thought.

Update

Their reply:

Thank you for your inquiry dated 10/8/08 regarding making a payment to
your Bank of America Platinum Plus Visa xxxx..We will be happy to
assist you.

We know it is frustrating when an important tool you use is not working
properly. We recommend trying to login to the Bank of America website
again, to see if your options are now available for you. In addition
please re-enter all account information that is being asked of your. We
aplogize for any inconvenience this matter may cause.

____________

There also was an account added to my BOA account suddenly which was from like 9 years ago when I once was thinking about buying a Apple computer..Apple ( MBNA ) gave me back then a line of credit but I never used and it seems that when BOA took over MBNA that line of credit is now showing up on my BOA account suddenly. I informed them to close it out and to remove it immediately and I did change my password to my BOA online account...So all should be a-ok now..

And they didn't address the e-bill inquiry so I will see if the next statement comes in the mail like the way it always has and the way I want it to.

Thanks for the helpful replies and suggestions!

I use BofA for Checking, Savings and one Credit Card. I pay using their site but I don't do it through the bill pay link (I just clicked on the pay now link and it took me to bill pay). Instead I do a transfer. Just select the account you want it to come from and select your credit card as the destination. I takes you through a couple of extra steps compared to a normal transfer but that's because it's processing it as a payment instead of a regular transfer. Granted if you don't have a checking or savings account with them as well this won't work but then again neither would bill pay.
