Yeah it is crazy ! Even 1.5 mbps might cost u around 40$ a month but for that much money i can get the cable hs internet and it is 10 times faster than Qwest DSL ! |

Agreed. Especially when a blanket statement like cable is cheaper is false. In many places, cable is a lot more money than DSL. In my area, cable is about $10 more per month than DSL. And having had both, I will take a 1.5mb/896kb qwest dsl over 8mb/400kb any day of the week. later... mike... |

Did you ever take math in school???? So, you are saying that your download speed is 15mb and your upload is 10.75mb???? Spin the numbers anyway you want. 8mb is NOT 10X faster than 1.5mb. You can't ADD them together. If that's what you're doing, then you've proven that you really don't know how bandwidth and the internet work.
But based on advertised speeds of 8mb/400kb by many cable providers, that would mean the download is about 5 times faster than qwest and the upload is about HALF the speed of qwest. Then, combine that with the fact that most cable providers have a 40% variable fluctuation in their bandwidth capacity during certain peak hours of the day, and the "speed" (bandwidth) difference is almost negligible.
And, to clarify the rest of your statement, the average Qwest dsl user, who has telephone service also, is paying approximately $36 a month for their dsl. So, I say to you that your 8mb/400k cable broadband, which during much of the day when needed is probably closer to 6mb/300k is too expensive compared to qwest dsl. Your service is almost $10 a month more. later... mike..... |

This thread is sad when basic math is lost. 8Mbps is plan and simple not 10X faster than 1.5Mbps.
In addition, I have to wonder what cable company offers an 8Mbps package with over 896kbps upload to even try and explain how the end result is 12 times faster. |
