Re: [Niagara] is there a problem with cogeco's news server?

So you pay way to much for a buisness account from cogeco, then on top of that you pay 25 bucks a month to giganews ...??? Talk about throwing your money away, there are much smarter options.
continue...?

Is it necessary for you trolls to bring your bullshit into this thread too? We're complaining about issues with Cogeco's news servers. we don't give a shit if you're using giganews, teksavvy with your anonymous proxy or whatever tickles your fancy. If you have nothing constructive to add to this thread please gtfo.

Urban Riot - "I figure if I can save Cogeco on a little bit of bandwidth and one more person is seen as using it, maybe it'll benefit Cogeco and the other users."

Why is it so important for you to save Cogeco bandwidth? It is not your problem. You pay them to fix bandwidth problems. They have been fixing them with throttling, hard caps and next usage billing.

I would also like to know why you think it is worth saving a nntp server with only one to two days retention? That is clearly useless.

I am glad people are calling UrbanRiot on his crap. A business account so he can download with cogeco, Plus paying extra for giganews. This chump must be paying over a 120 bucks a month for something we got for 40 bucks little over a year ago.

The laughable part is, he can't even figure it out.

Re: [Niagara] is there a problem with cogeco's news server?

Business accounts start at $54.95 with 120GBs of BW, and I think what he may have meant was that it saves his bandwidth not the companies? I just hate the fighting!

I am a heavy user myself and do try to avoid being cut off, but it usually doesn't get to that. I could be wrong but I think that was what he was getting at. I think almost everyone who reads DSL reports is all about either the BW, speeds, or both. Even Urbanriot. JimBeam is right, however, lets get back to the point of this thread, the news servers!

Krispy I think is on vacation so we won't get an update for a bit. But I think there are a couple lurkers *hint hint* that can hopefully check progress, so lets hope it starts getting worked on!!! I haven't heard of any updates/resolution information myself most likely won't hear anything until at LEAST later this week.

If you hate the fighting so much, then get cogeco to start spending money on upgrades to handle more bandwidth, rather then spending it on PR plants in these forums that cause the arguments.

What you left out, like in the other thread about usage billing where you conveniently left out that bell and rogers has a maximum usage bill of 25-30. Is that the "54.95" is a 7 mbit connection, on a 12 month contract. NO contract is 64.95 with getting cut off at 120gb.

Compare that to Bells 7 meg service, 37.95 a month with a 60bg cap, and unlimited to a max of 30 bucks, with no contract.

Compare that to teksavvy 5 meg, 29.95 200gb cap, with no contract.

Compare that to just over a year ago, when people paying 40 bucks for the standard internet at cogeco could get news groups and download at 10mbit, with no worries.

Big time cash grab for cogeco, and now with the usage billing, I am sure that will grab even more money to make the stock holders happy. Profits are going up at cogeco, the big wigs are getting raises, at the cost of screwing the customer and the minions at Harvester will be getting paid their crappy wages to tow the company line when people call in.

It's fine if Cogeco wants to do this, but don't shit in my corn flakes and tell me it's chocolate.

Obvious sametroll is obvious. At least spread out your posts a bit so you don't look like you've having a conversation with yourself. Sametroll, it's a business write-off so I'm not really concerned about the price as I am having high quality, highly available, low latency internet. There's other benefits to having a Cogeco business account. If you sincerely care, and are not just trolling, start another thread and I'll be happy to list them.

I'm flattered that you'll go to such lengths to continually harass me, is this still over torrents? You're not "calling" me on anything, you don't know what my "ideology" is or how I use the internet.

I, like the other people that use Cogeco's news service, are happy with what we have. Why does that incense you so much? Why do you care so much about what other people are doing?

So far you've posted your BS, but you have't suggested these 'smarter' alternatives yet. Proceed. n

I stopped using the newsgroups because they were fairly spotty, but I've been trying them out a bit more recently with varied success.

And as far as this thread is concerned, and a lot of others, one of the biggest things that makes a forum an efficient and effective form of communication is proper, on-topic posting. This is definitely getting out of control lately. I know it's everybody's right to complain about caps, bandwidth, smurfs, ponies, speed, but for the love of whatever you choose to worship or not worship - don't drag it into every single thread. This is definitely dragging down the quality of the forum.

Said like a true - non annonymous poster

Glad to hear you're trying the server but Krista is right, there are some major issues/changes that have to be done to our newsgroup and it looks like the ball is actually rolling on this one! Keep checking back for the updates and hopefully it'll work better for you

I'm not urbanriot and I don't care who's who but you're all really annoying. Why are you kids even considering this a *fight* and what are you going to win? And aren't you guilty of what you just accused someone else of doing? And why aren't you in school?

I agree. Stop contributing to the crap, and start insulting people like the previous post did!

By the way, I can report at least 1.5days retention/completion as of this morning.
