 | [Niagara] is there a problem with cogeco's news server? alt.support.stop-smoking, is a very busy group , 20 to 50 new post a day, there is one new post this morning . and now there is zero retention on this group. Normally there are well over a 1000 posts in retention, today there are none. I tried both cogeco's news servers, net and ca both have the same problem This all started a couple of days ago |

 | Thank you for the reply |

 | reply to ohynottony2 I was wondering what is happening too. All my text groups are showing only one post on the server, and that won't open. Oddly, binary groups don't seem to be affected.
Cogeco is one of the few North American ISPs to still offer a comprehensive news server, for which I am grateful. I hope this isn't a foreshadowing of Cogeco going the same was as Rogers, Bell, Telus, etc. and dropping their usenet access. |

 | reply to ohynottony2 I'm having issues in Kingston, anyone have any updates on this? |
|
 | Still getting no text posts. Tera and Bubba were down yesterday, so I had to resort to using my pay NSP to read text posts! |
|
 | It's 11 days since the OP, and text posts are still expiring within an hour or two or not showing up at all. Binaries are mostly OK, with some gaps I can fill from other servers. |
|
 | seems to be fixed for my group anyway, I haven't checked any other groups expect alt.support.stop-smoking |
|
 | It's improved, but posts are still arriving late. My own posts show up in seconds on other servers. |
|
 | reply to ohynottony2 Well I was having troubles with binaries, but it was fixed for the last week or so. Go to try again today, and it's back down....
Ugh |
|
 | reply to ohynottony2 Most of the binaries groups have been close to unusable for me the past 3 days or so. Many of the files that binsearch shows as all the files being complete are incomplete for me when I actually try to use my reader to download. Hopefully someone has noticed this and is working on it... |
|
 | reply to ohynottony2 Is it possible give a probable ETA of when the server's going to be up and running again properly? Or once again is it gonna be some kind of vague "sometime in the future" answer that seems so common with cogeco. |

 | Thanks , waiting patently, because its not working anymore, Using cogeco's server I can retrieve the headers of my group, but not the messages but I can with news.motzarella.org servers |

WarningU2Premium join:2002-10-27 Burlington, ON | I don't use the newsserver very often and when I tried to reference a support group I infrequently go to and it was pending forever thought there was an issue with my news reader (newspro). Thought to come here to see if anything was happening. Glad I checked.
Seems odd its been an ongoing problem for this long. |
|
 | Yes, seems to be completely offline now |

 | said by exseven:what kind of error do you get, im able to connect and download headers Starting yesterday, my newsreader (Agent) has been telling me that there are no new headers for any folder I attempt to update (and some of them are very high traffic groups). |
|
 | reply to ohynottony2 It's Saturday Nov 1, 2008 and I can download some headers but it won't let me get the message if I try and download it.
I've noticed within the last month and a half that a lot of the headers are only half complete and there is definitaly a problem with the news server.
Well If anyone can help that would be great
Thank You |

 | reply to exseven said by exseven:what kind of error do you get, im able to connect and download headers The connection simply times out when you try to download or read any article.
Yes, you can pull the headers, but that's it. |
