President didn't sign this bill yet

The bill is sitting on the President's desk:
»thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z···s.01492:

But even if he signs it - so what?
Without money all it did was to order the FCC to do what it already planned on doing. Nothing really changes at all.

Incorrect. It brings in additional agencies.
The Commerce Department is one of several federal agencies that will now be tasked with improving national data on broadband services and utilizing that data to improve policies to enhance and expand the technological infrastructure, including the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the Census Bureau (a nominally independent part of Commerce), the Government Accountability Office, and the Small Business Administration.
Where the money will come from is a question. Maybe they can borrow money from AIG's executive relaxation and sauna treatment fund?

Extra bureaucracy and unclear funding sources. Goverment at it's best.

Yes, without extra funds what are these other agencies going to do? NOTHING!

Both. This entire project could be funded with AIG's taxpayer-funded pedicure getaway.

Adding things like broadband-related census questions is helpful and inexpensive. The GAO meanwhile already investigates FCC dysfunction, and can roll this into their existing mandate...

that was something else, wasn't it?
A half a million dollar party celebrating their bailout, stupid F***ers. Joe taxpayer should form march on AIG, wall street, and then the capitol with pitch forks and torches in a scene reminicent of Frankenstein!

Now I hear Pelosi talking about another stimulas...how about an infrastructure bailout. Include broadband into it. 700 billion towards roads, bridges, and a fence at the border would make for alot of jobs!

A Trillion here and a Trillion there, then watch out for the hyper-inflation. The government will start printing money to pay for it all you'll be longing for the days of $3.50 gasoline when it costs over ten bucks a gallon.

President signed this bill today

President Bush on Friday signed into law a bill that would facilitate the collection of data regarding broadband access in the United States, though most of the actions required by the law have already been accomplished by federal regulators.
