| The disconnect
Is anybody seeing it? People don't accept what's happening. People are like "I don't want to see or know about it and everything is going to be exactly as it has always been". It's fascinating to watch.
It is my opinion that people are basically cowards and can't act in the face of dire consequences. This is a fine little peccadillo we find ourselves in. Good luck to the human race is all I have to say. |

Just think about what is going to happen when the gangbangers start going hungry or can't get money for drugs. |

The average 9-5 paycheck to paycheck American doesn't care, Unless that job is one of the weak sectors.. But, that's not the weak money that's pushing the market down..

At last check the crack market wasn't dependent on institutional credit lines, additionally since the trades happen in USD, the strengthening dollar should have little impact. Actually lowering fuel costs might strengthen that market, assuming current inventories aren't overly fixed to past transportation costs... In short, I would worry about this one. -- It's a fact : Chicks dig Mafia players. 'Wanna help buy a goat?' - »www.kiva.org

Like an ostrich with head in sand you see 2 kinds, bargain hunters and people who are oblivious. Well with all due respect GM and Ford are bargains and I myself am totally oblivious to that. I don't think you are seeing a downside in all this, nor do I think most people see the downside. |

What do you think is happening? Are you referring to the stock market declining, the end of American loose credit, the American economic Ponzi scheme blowing up, government corruption in plain sight, the U.S. corporate oligarchy, resource depletion (aka peak oil) biting us in the rear end or all of the above? |

| Moved my money around, stocked the house with 6 months provisions and paid rent 3 months in advance. I have inventoried my survival equipment and bought an abundance of things that I used to only dream of owning. The UPS and FED EX drivers have come every day this week. Right now I am researching very durable multi purpose bicycles.
I tried to imagine being lost in the wilderness and finding a cabin then I asked myself what I would like to find in that cabin, then I compared the current state of my very own abode and I decided to spend about 5 thousand just on sundries. All my preparation may be in vain but I feel better sleeping at night, let me tell you that much. |

I don't think you are seeing a downside in all this, nor do I think most people see the downside. Of course I see a downside on all this..
But there is a certain amount of pragmatism having been thru it before.. One of the investments I made was in time to be on record to reap the dividend which more than offsets any loss.. one is actually up, and one is mostly neutral with a dividend event on the horizon.
GM and F are not bargains. Consumer confidence is low, so car buying is low.. Credit is difficult, so the market is limited to prime buyers, and company is going to be able to secure credit to finance operations. If you want to throw money at GM or F, I'd throw it in the fireplace to offset fuel costs.
Today was actually encouraging.. End of week sell-off is almost expected. Huge morning selling from overnight orders and margins clears, and a low volume roller coaster most of the day, overall up from the initial high volume, and green before the end of week sell...
If someone is just tossing money in and buying google (or GM or F) on guts, that's head in the sand. But some might have an actual plan, and a reason for executing it.

| reply to marcseatac The actual disconnect I see is:

1) A Strengthening dollar in a petro-dollor economy.
2) Low volume on the recent downward market activity..
3) A strong sense of panic, which seems media induced..

| I think you are wrong about #3, it's not media induced fear, it's real and can be seen on the faces of our elected officials. I've been reading hair raising economist warnings for the last 2 years that no one was paying attention to. Now I'm watching the things those economists were saying playing out on the nightly news. Anyway that's only my opinion.
Happy hunting. |

The smart bargain hunter is protecting themselves against that and targeting necessities.. My play is energy trusts and expanding into vices..
Market is down 8 trillion, and has a 100% track record of recovering. I plan on catching part of that wave...
