The representative you spoke with was correct. In most instances if you make a change to your service including upgrade or downgrading and are currently under a one year contract you will be required to renew for another year. You can find the options that are specifically available to your account by going to »www.dslextreme.com/members. From there select the modify subscription link on the left hand side. That will show you all of the packages and options that are specifically available to you.

Thanks

They told me that it was not a problem if you are upgrading a service.

They never told me that a contract would restart.
I was told that by one rep via their chat support as well. But I confirmed two other times via email and via chat-billing support and they both said the 12 month contract would restart.

I have had DSL Extreme's basic 768/128 DSL ($18) for six months and I would like to upgrade to the 3000/768 ($30).

Why will this cause my 12 month contract to restart?

I obviously don't mind paying the additional $12 per month, but I would like to avoid the contract restart since the cancellation fee is quite hefty at $250. We are currently renting our home and I'm not sure how much longer we plan to stay here. I would hate to be stuck with that cancellation fee if we did have to bail. It would basically mean I would have paid an additional $20 monthly for my DSL service if I had to cancel.

Anyone at DSL Extreme listening and willing to help out a happy customer? I left a good review for you guys here at DSLReports
